Making it i170 +20 moral would have been a good way to prepare for WD update. Newer players who wanted to take it seriously would have had a gear set to go and play with, and for people farming their way to 50, something to actually spend their marks on that they can use rather than holding 2-4 sets of i180 gear for a couple of months lol

Hell, maybe that would even offer an additional incentive to esocasuals to play and give it a legit shot.

I'm relatively casual about PvP here and while I want the gear eventually, I don't enjoy it enough to really do more than my roulette most days. (I have a lot of complaints about the set up, but I used to PvP almost exclusively for much of WoW, so I still get the itch pretty often). But the sheer number of ranks before I can really get any PvP gear is pretty discouraging. I'm rank 27, plus or minus a rank or two, and I still have a long way to go really). It doesn't help that queue times for my GC are awful, of course.

I agree completely. Its a long uphill march to the i180 gear, and new players who might otherwise be legit interested in pvp might get put off. I fully support a second set of gear being put in to keep players interested while they grind slowly towards 50. Even better if it could be useful in level 60 WD, since I fear WD might be a very new player unfriendly experience.

I do think that there needs to be an incentive to new pvpers, or we risk stagnating, and queues are already lackluster for a lot of players.

That's why I think it's so strange they didn't reset rank in some fashion, really. If this becomes a pattern, then by the end of Heavensward, we won't be talking about a 50-rank mountain: it'll be a ~75-rank one that's growing. That's incredibly unfriendly. Even if they make a point to put in starter gear, it's going to at some point feel insurmountable to anyone who hasn't kept up with the ranks.

And if ranks keep growing in exp/rank as they have been, it will be something annoying like the exp it took to get 1-50 will be the exp needed to go from 50-75 or some other such nightmare.

But I could see how veteran pvpers wouldnt enjoy their hard work being removed like much of the other hardwork that HW undid rather quickly.

Not a very easy solution to find.

Unfortunately that's the nature of vertical progression games. Even the relic grind is getting a "reset." Nobody wants their hard work invalidated, but PvP is really the only aspect of the game that didn't get some form of a blank slate for the expansion, and as mentioned, eventually, it's just going to mean no one is PvPing unless they do something about it.

There's already a bunch of incentive already. titles, mounts, commander's set, the previous sets of pvp gear have had their rank requirement removed so you can collect that gear while you're waiting on the 180 set, Eso and Poetic tomestones. I don't know what else you think there needs to be?

I mean, if they don't care about all that and the pvp itself isn't enough to keep them playing, then they just don't care about pvp. And if they don't care about pvp, then they're among the majority of people coming in looking to grab a set of 180 pvp gear to glamour and never come back.

The 180 set is reserved for the hardcore pvpers, just like the dyeable Gordian set is reserved for the hardcore raiders, just like the kirin mount/zeta weapons/death mask blah blah etc etc.

Except I have 4 pieces of the set laying in my bank. Maybe if I could use it I would have more fun PvPing.

I don't "Grind" for fun, I grind for the gear. My reward for that grind is putting on that gear.

When I raid, I don't "raid" for fun. I raid for gear. If I had to do 100000 raids to wear a piece of gear. Guess what? I wouldn't bother raiding.

Instead i'd be asking for more dungeon content and saying "raiding" is useless and have a thread for it. =P

    Honestly...

If you could not wear Alexander gear unless you did each zone 600 times. Nobody would do it.

If they removed the ranks, and made the pieces cost 20x more then it would still be a "grind" however I would actually get to wear what I buy. Its a MUCH better system then these crap ranks

You'll have your free hand out in a patch coming in the future.

Titles are irrelevant to me as I never use anything but a particular one. Mounts are irrelevant because I only use chocobos, and I think the Commander's set is ugly, as are all the PvP sets. All of those are essentially cosmetic incentives outside of Esoterics and Poetics (both of which are generally gained more quickly through other content).

Contrary to your narrow-minded view, I do, in fact, care about PvP, and find the grind to be rather intimidating to the point where it takes the fun out of actually doing it. This is a progression oriented game, with most of that progression tied to gear--and there is no gear progression in PvP presently until you've done several hundred matches. That's silly.

Yes, the top gear should be for the dedicated PvPers, but that doesn't mean there can't also be lesser level 60 gear for people to acquire on the way up.
