NO DX10! That will take the game away from us clever people who didn't buy Vista and stuck with XP for it's stability and general all-around betterness as an operating system :3
Windows 7 however, I would upgrade to if I could afford it...

I understand your plight, they could work in directx9 and achieve great things. They just failed to.
I do think backward compatibility with aging systems is the tool of the devil. It holds everyone back. This game is a double edged sword because it must maintain compatibility with the PS3. So with that noose around its neck I don't ever expect to see amazing graphics out of it.
Actually it does having amazing graphics to those with an eye to spot the tiny details.I understand your plight, they could work in directx9 and achieve great things. They just failed to.

If you start in Limsa, during the opening cut-scene where Leviathan leaps out of the water, look carefully at the droplets of water when the camera does a close-up of your characters face.
Each of those droplets of water is reflecting bits of the scenery, independently.
That's pretty amazing graphics if you ask me :3

Those cutscenes are the only impressive thing this game has graphics-wise.
-there's always only one lightsource that casts a shadow (which appears broken/aliased depending on angle)
-shadows and objects appear out of nowhere
-there's always a visible border between background and foreground
-no free choice of anti-aliasing/texture filtering (which is required for optimal performance per GPU)
-no setting to reduce the poly count
-ambient occlusion is horribly broken
-DoF causes graphical anomalies (pixel storm trees)
-you can only see characters that are very close to you
-alt-tab in fullscreen mode
Could probably think of way more stuff... but this shall do for now :P

PS3 LIMITATIONS!I do think backward compatibility with aging systems is the tool of the devil. It holds everyone back.
