i go in blind and will never watch a video before i clear it.

after i clear it. i'll watch the fight to see how others do it and possibly learn new strats. though since i love doing it blind. i go in not wanting people to tell me anything. i want to see the fight. if i screw up or do not understand the mechanic i died to. i will only ask on that one mechanic.

if i see a farm party or clear party. i will not join it. i passed so many of them as i am not there yet. like the bismarck extreme. i was there at the beginning where people had learning paties left right and center and after a while they died down with the odd ones. i only joined those and got phase 1 and 2 down and learning phase 3. i cleared it just recently.

i went in blind for turn 7 when it went up on the duty finder. i never asked what to do in the fight. though i had a lot of people down my throat for not watching a video. i even said arguing with me right now is not going to kill it and me not even attempting it is not going to kill it. let me see the fight. i wiped the party with the stone gaze. i did not ask what to do. i was notified to look away from the group. after that 1 wipe. we cleared it as i knew what to look for above my head. sometimes people are fast learners while other times it might take some time to understand. myself watching anything. i do not learn from it. i can not retain the information. i am hands on 100%.

i just won't burden the PF if they want a clear/farm when i am not ready to clear causing more wipes. i either wait till something pops up or if i really want to attempt to get further. i'll start my own party with a learners description.

When HW was released, obviously I didn't watch any video's (there weren't any!), I really enjoyed working it out with the team (usually FC members) as we went along.

I took a break about 1 week into HW and came back 4 weeks later, I initially didn't watch any video's but found I kept dying as I did not know any mechanics (not that they are all that hard to figure out after 1 or 2 runs) and was making the runs longer than they needed to be.

I started FF14 in feb this year and always watched a video before running an instance. Before any raid content I will always watch a video, my brother (tank) will even take notes! lol

A video can only show so much though, watching it and running it are two very different things imo. Once you run it, you actually start to understand it.

I don`t watch videos just cause im from the old generation of players who prefered writen guides with images, since those are a dying breed at this day and age, i just go blind on many cases, honestly, no fight in this game is worth to watch or read too deep into it, T9 is the closest we have ever been to a "complex" fight and i don`t see that happening anymore in a long time...

It`s just an MMORPG after all.

I don't watch videos. However, I do use written guides that explain the mechanics and concept of the fight. It isn't about immersion and whatnot for me. It's just that I am not a visual learner. I learn a fight by the grasp of mechanics so that I can pace my own movements and thoughts. For example, against Nael I kept messing up the divebombs. Simply telling me "move here then here" didn't help me at all. I was nervous whenever that phase happened, I would keep looking at the party chat for the tank macro and my DPS would suffer. But the moment that a friend kindly explained WHY we had to move to certain positions, I was able to watch out for the dragons myself and positioned myself accordingly even before tanks dropped macros.

I don't mind if newbies do old content blind (along as they didn't join a PF for experienced players only). However I don't like when they expect people to type out mini guides for them and get aggressive if no one does. If you came in blind, DO IT BLIND. Isn't that the point?
Sigh. I know someone like this. There was a duty back in 2.something that we thought he would have a hard time with, so we tried to give him a heads up. He yelled at us and told us not to spoil it for him. About an hour later, he was still stuck in the duty (he did not go in with us) and asked us what he's supposed to do... spammed the chat til we answered.

Common courtesy to watch a video or at least ask someone what to do beforehand instead of forcing 7 other people to bare with you 'figuring it out on your own'.

I've seen a newbie try to kick someone for not explaining a fight. The newbie was spamming chat with stuff like, "HELLO??? CAN SOME F-ING EXPLAIN?" then singled out a DPS. The DPS said, "I don't feel like it" and that's when the newbie tried to kick him. Newbie left when the kick didn't go through.

I do my best to never watch a video before taking part in a fight for the first time. I let everyone know when the fight starts that it's my first time there, and will ask if anyone has any tips, such as avoiding an instant wipe mechanic, but I by no means demand them. There's also a big difference between getting player tips that almost always are vague "kill X first" or "avoid Y", and videos that show you the full fight before hand, in terms of spoiling it for you. If I make an attempt on a boss a couple of times and I still don't know what to do, then I watch a video on it. For the most part though, just a couple of attempts is enough to learn what to do and what not to do in a fight.....

I do get quite annoyed at these people who treat watching a video outside the game as "mandatory" before doing a fight. I've even had a couple of times when running a new dungeon where a player would say to "watch a video" if I or anyone else doesn't know the mechanics of the boss fights before hand. It's one thing to stay silent and not offer advice to someone if they don't know the run and you don't want to explain, but it's another entirely to treat them like they should be required to seek information outside the game itself before every piece of content.....

I personally don't like spoilers. I usually want the first time I beat something to be fresh, makes it more thrilling. After I beat it the first time or made it most way through the fight, I'll watch a video to refine what I'm doing.

Also if it is an encounter like Savage vs. Normal and I've done normal , I'll watch the savage video because there's nothing to spoil. Same with Normal vs. Extreme Primals and stuff.

I will go in blind if its a 4 man dungeon or a leveling trial, but for stuff that is current end game meta I'll watch a video for (alex normal, ex level 60 primals, stuff like that).

Prefer going in blind if the team as a whole is up for it. If I need to DF something solo that isn't faceroll then yeah I will either know the fight already or read(DNT(death and taxes - dtguilds.com) makes text guides that are nice to go through) or watch a few guides(because you rarely find one that is good on it's own - all the guides tend to gloss over one or other detail or skip on explaining why some mechanic needs to be done in such a way etc... I learn by understanding and I come to that understanding by doing it and seeing what happens...).

First time T1 ppl said watch this guide.. I watched it and still had no clue what was going on. After actually experiencing the fight a few times I knew what needed to be done without that guide getting in my way.
