Say the game goes on sale for 50% off but then the sale ends should the new player come along and demand they get the game for 50% off too even though the sale is over?
It'd really just a short-term solution to make the event return because there'll always be people who missed it and they will want the event to make a comeback again.
The best solution is to add it to the cash shop or Gold Saucer
cash shop=not happening unless they remove the stats from the gear.
They have said multiple times no stats on any items in the cash shop ever. I personally would like to see them to stick to that stance.
Golden Saucer=I still think a good idea would be to add mock up versions of the FATEs as GATEs so people can earn the gear. it wouldn't be difficult to add NPCs that let you get the gear while the GATE is up.
They should add these types of event items to the Gold Saucer vendor.
Which wouldn't really be that difficult to do ^^; They've added copies of gear to Mogstation before (old Xmas outfit, made untradeable to prevent people from selling them on to others), so it's not unprecedented.
But I agree that it would be suitable for Gold Saucer; considering how eager that reporter seemed to be during the event, it wouldn't be too out of the blue to have them go "well, we (read Manderville family) managed to borrow/buy them off an adventurer, and made replicas so we can make loads of money and draw even more people to our casino. win/win for us" ^_~
The new player can still get this hypothetical game by paying more, but we can't get the lightning hair by paying more.Price isn't the issue, it's the inability to obtain it at all.

You missed it. Too bad.
My memory is a bit foggy regarding the event, but was it not simply a series of FATES in progressively higher level zones, which spawned every hour or so? No need to go DO aforementioned FATEs if you did not want to. Although I have no idea why anyone would complain about a novel FATE in an area.
And the resulting gear had better stats than even some HQ level gear in that level range.
