When I had to run AK as a paladin as part of the relic quest, I was pulling mobs with Shield Lob, flashing when they were all in range, and using Circle of Scorn as the opening rotation. But of course, due to being outgeared by the DPS, I still had minor issues every now and then. One of them blamed it on me using Circle of Scorn and said I shouldn't be using it. I just ignored that "advice."
This was as me playing NIN in a low level roulette, not tanking myself. New GLD tank in sash, pulling with shield lob, then 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, did not cast flash once. Both myself, and the healer, suggested it nicely. Continues to pull then 1-2, 1-2. After again suggestiing the use of flash, and being ignored, I just piled on DPS and tanked as NIN, swapping targets to keep them off healer, through the rest of the run. Got 2 comms at the end. I'm counting this as a bad tanking experience as a tank main, watching it was painful
So far as new FF14 player and tank lvl 1-55, the worst two comments i got was:
1) My very first dungeon on first trash pull ever: "Tank flash more plz"
(Yeah they where right, i simply had no expierince on how often i have to flash to hold aggro, was also not used to use the enmity bars. In fact at this time i did not even know those existed.)
2) Ravana hard: "Why did you jump off?" after i miss-positioned myself and got pushed off by a knock-back. I was thinking, "yeah thanks for reminding everyone in party chat of my failure..."
So overall the worst behavior i noticed, since playing are the forum and attitude from older players having multiple 60 jobs and this instant leaving after a few failed tries. It does not surprise me and is not FF14 specific, but still consider it rude that many don't want to deal with failures.
Otherwise on my server the community seems rather nice so far, always in a hurry but nice.
Had an A1 normal where the WHM decided to keep Med2 ticking the entire time on Faust, and I was OT.
Was... interesting to say the least. Never had to switch out of Deliverance that early. Then when I pointed out that it really wasn't a good idea to do that, their argument was "it's a HoT" so I just... left it alone and moved on. They were really caught up on it, though - every time they used Med2 on Oppressor they were like "Better not use Med2!!!".
That was my single most bizarre experience tanking. Haven't encountered anything similar before then or since.
I actually don't have a really BAAADD experience tanking with my paladin, except for some derp healers but once I got a Bard that before the dungeon began he started saying bad stuff about me, because I was a bad tanker, I sucked, He "stole" my aggro (he attacked the monster before me...) because I was an Idiot, and stuff like that, then I was pissed off and he used an AoE on 4 adds... and then I let the adds bypass the party and attack him, since he started using AoE while he was cursing me and I asked him to apologize and asked to the healer to heal him ( since he generated some aggro on the adds) in the end he almost died, I used cover on him when he was with +/- 200 hp, and he left after we killed the adds ^.^ /
So.. the next time you see a DPS complaining, show him/her how useless (s)he is inside a Dungeon when it comes to tanking adds and teach them a leson rsrsrsrsrs
Methinks you and I ran across the same WHM. Something is wrong when I can't take so much as a single GCD to apply Scourge to Faust without the Medica II spam tearing aggro from my hands. I was rocking full Slaying, too, it was really weird and annoying.Had an A1 normal where the WHM decided to keep Med2 ticking the entire time on Faust, and I was OT.

So way back when I was just a baby PLD looking to take on Garuda Normal, I got this really elitist DPS that claimed I was the reason we kept wiping. I knew the mechanics, I did my job, but he couldn't get it together and stop standing right next to me during the fight. "Maybe you're the problem" I said, and "I'm ilvl 110, you're the problem" he said, so I was kicked from that group. Entered again, got a group of people that were new to the fight like me, no insane ilvls or anything...we cleared it first try. But hey, I thank that guy! He reminds me that not everybody in FFXIV is as nice a person as some. You can't win 'em all, so you can only do your best!
If you truly want to be a better tank, getting rid of this archaic notion is going to go a long ways. Yeah, for leveling I'd stack VIT accessories but once you hit 60, having both a VIT set and a STR set for accessories that you can mix/match will make you a much better tank than just having one or the other due to "that's the way things are".
