share your bad experiences tanking

when i was first starting out i was a squishy tin can, went to Stone Vigil which is the first really challenging and unforgiving dungeon (the lower dungeons tend to be more easy going if you don't play your roles or are not geared)

anyways i died in the second pull and because i wasn't using flash often mobs were running around all over the place. I left the dungeon embarrassed, after that i didn't play my paladin for several months and just played my monk on the Gilgamesh server. Got bored with my monk and logged into my paladin one day and decided to do the dungeon again, lucky i had a real helpful healer that gave me tips and i eventually passed it.

But yea DPS freak out if your a pally and you aren't flash, some need to chillax i'll get i the mob attacking with either provoke or another flash, don't panic your not going to die cause one mob is attacking you

I am currently bad on my DRK no bad XP I know it myself didn't get to run recent dungeons (would be Sohm Al) and Dr low loves to give me sastasha atm lol. But once I start running recent content I am confident I get a hang for that mana-management because in SoF I definitely suck atm with AOE aggro due to MP issues :/
Anyway I had these days a DF tank clling out at a friend that mentioned that you can solotank Faust and that he (my friend) with STR gear could DPS then.... Tanks with STR gear are no real tanks >.<
Luckily I mostly tank with mostly premade friends so only get called at rarely or during the leveling... I can live with the usual people telling you you had no clue and if you check the profile never touched any tank or the raid pro who I even care less for ^^

Amdapour Keep. Two iLevel 110 Black Mages from back when i90 was the highest I could get my hot little hands on. Wouldn't have been too bad, but of course they were impatient, foul-mouthed, pushy little snots who insisted on pulling everything from start to finish.
Best tanks I've ever seen. Not in the game, but iRL; they've held hate from me to this day.

Had a tank in ST who claimed to be the best tank in the game. Sadly, the tool was on my server. He was an absolute failure as a tank, and I thank my lucky stars I decided to tank that run, rather than play any of the classes I was gearing up through it. Amusingly enough, the entire Alliance was giving him crap after he started shooting his mouth off. Things like "Best tank 2015! Holds more hate on his party than the mobs!" He tried trolling the party by running away with one of the adds on Glasya. And then lost it to a random BLM who parked it where it belonged. At that point, I just lost it. Not only could he not tank right, he couldn't even troll right. It was fantastic.

Though, I think the most angry I've ever made another player was in another ST. He brought a premade group to one of the Alliances, so nobody could kick him, and he just started trash talking everyone, with his group backing him up. I fired back, so he turned his focus to me. Started telling me how much I suck as a tank, how I should kill myself, etc. Just a great guy. Then he made the mistake of making fun of my name. His was something along the lines of "Jimbob". Not quite, but close enough to avoid the name and shame. So, after he kept making fun of my name, I said something to the effect of "That's cute, coming from a Jimbob. How's your sister lately?" That's it. Didn't say anything else. Just "How's your sister lately?" Oh, the rage was fantastic, and delicious. But, he was too busy AFKing and spouting rage to troll the party, at least.

So a tank who uses any weapon or armor above level 5 isn't a real tank? Because left side gear has Strength on it, too, not just Slaying accessories. Hell, even shields have Strength on them.

tanks need strength nowadays
it is almost as important as VIT
especially to warriors

A couple of horror stories in WOD come to mind.Was main tanking the eye for a minute.Suddenly one of the other tanks decides he's gonna tank and hits provoke.Boss turns around and wipes half the alliance with laser.It was just a mess from then on in.Also let the other tanks main tank second time as i;m not gonan agro fight.They lose agro to a bard .Lasers flying around the place.I take agro back and they agree to let me main tank.
Had another time with the hydra boss the dps was so low and they didn't deal with adds.Must have been tanking that boss for atleast 10 mins.several holmgangs had to be used because the healers mana was struggling from such a long fight.
Another time was main tanking cerberus as we were alliance C.Suddenly my warrior doesn't get any heals and dies.Turns out both healers went inside belly.....

One of the worst experiences I had as a tank was not too long ago, when I ran A1 Normal. The party wiped to Faust's enrage. Here's what I remember of the chat afterwards (I don't have a chat screenshot and apparently the log got deleted somehow):

Me: "Well, I guess there's a first time for everything."
(someone, can't remember who): "Yeah, really."
Me: "DPS, Please wake up and do your jobs. "
(healer): "One was dead a couple of times. Chill."

At that point, 2 things went through my mind: First, I wanted to slap the offtank - there's zero reason to have dead dps on that fight. Second thought was....really? I've cleared this before after DPS deaths. That was my first (and only) time ever seeing his enrage outside of Savage - I never saw it even on week 1. Needless to say, while we did beat faust on our second try, we didn't clear.

I solo tank Faust in STR gear. Even in Savage, I'm 3 Slaying 2 Fending. o.O

At that point, 2 things went through my mind: First, I wanted to slap the offtank - there's zero reason to have dead dps on that fight.

Just do what I do. Assume your tanking partner is bad and say you'll pick up everything. Then it gets done right.

My bad experience with tanking involved me getting warrior to 60 just to realize how inferior my geared level 60 PLD was to my lvl 54 warrior while levelling.
