Yeah let's make it so all we have to do is hit one button and make things super easy. Reason smn got that skill was because one they're a dps class and two their primary damage is dots.

Our primary role is healing. Not DPS. Healers were not created with DPS in mind so getting this skill in all likelihood will never happen.

This part is clearly untrue, but Tri-Disaster for SCH still isn't likely to happen, and it shouldn't. It's not a bad thing that SMN has a distinctive and useful way to apply DoTs that isn't shared with SCH.

Actually they had stated that they did not take into mind healers dpsing when they created the jobs and the game content. The expac seems to take this into account but 2.0 did not as yoshi p stated in one of his live letters.

Having to explain this fine distinction over and over again is exhausting.

Yoshida specifically addressed healer DPS in raid scenarios, describing how it was not used for calculating what the dev team deemed to be the minimum clear requirement for a given ilvl.

None of that means that healers were not created with DPS in mind. The selection of DPS skills they receive up to and past level 50 highly suggests otherwise.

Pretty much my interpretation of all these comments from Yoshi-P is as follows:
    • You don't need to DPS as a healer to succeed if your team is of appropriate ilvl strength
    • We have given you the tools to increase your DPS potential if you choose to make use of them
    • You shouldn't begrudge other players for how they want to play

Comment #3 is directed to players on both side of the coins.

I will admit though, it a secret blessing that the whole DPS vs Not DPS debate has pretty much disappeared for now with the outcry of AST discussion these past couple of weeks.

One thing I have noticed is they pretty much created a healer job that you really don't want to DPS on. When I don't feel like DPS as a healer I play my AST since their DPS is so abysmal that you can become a hinderince due to mana costs. And I'll play SCH when I just want to get crap done quickly.

AST DoTs are unmatched (Well, combust II anyway) and have no accuracy check. You can spent a lot of time out of cleric and still do pretty decent DPS. WHM can do better DPS but you basically have to full time cleric to do it and losing even a GCD or two to healing, or even misses, will see your numbers plummet.

Now healers can pull better numbers but AST, you can get by with just 2 GCDs in cleric stance, heal the rest of the time, and still sustain pretty OK damage for a healer.
