When was the Empire "kill them all"? They conquer by the sword, absolutely, but clearly entreat peaceful submission. I've read enough imperial banter to consider it quite obvious that any nation-state offering to be a imperial principality enters the Empire on far, far better terms than one that gets crushed into joining. The Empire from our character's perspective is, to be frank, butthurt enough to be vindictive at the constant failures they've had trying to extend themselves into Eorzea.

Without spoiling too much for anyone, the aversion or deficiency of pure blooded imperials to touch and use aether as magic may quite possibly render them dull to the influence of primals. I have no doubt this will be a critical plot point, moving forward.

I also have no doubt that future expansions will take us into the imperial cities - and I have no doubt you'll find them prosperous, probably even pleasant, although strict. My reasoning for this is fairly simple: The Imperials are modeled after the Roman Empire, plain as day. Being a Roman citizen was pretty much the best deal around for its time, and during the peak of the Roman Empire, acceptance for citizenship was an immensely coveted thing.

Besides trying to drop a Moon on everyone? I should point out that the fact that Gaius and Varis are noted to have objected to the Meteor plan means that it was presented as a plan, and they discussed it as a real option. It wasn't just one Madman that got some Allagan technology and went rogue, they developed the method, planned it out, and had a debate on whether it was an acceptable plan.

After having your supposedly unbeatable airship fleet ripped apart out of nowhere by more dragons than anybody has seen since, you'd consider the nuclear option, too. It's reasonable only in the context of a panic response.

it was still an official decision made and accepted by the empire.

Like most men, I've personally considered and rejected a robust variety of terrible acts. Who am I to judge for mere consideration?

Assuming the story backstory was drawn up with such fine detail, I expect the Dalamud-meteor project was a measured response to the possibility that Eorzea was harboring Allagan technology equal to or superior to the total might of the Empire itself, and was summarily rejected when it became apparent the city-states themselves had no such technology.

But it makes you wonder what Midgardsormr's vested interest in Silvertear falls was, beyond the religious hogwash associated with the event - having actually talked with the dragon, he does not appear particularly devout, with regards to the twelve; I'd call him aloof, actually. What was his motivation for stopping imperial incursion with his life? Was he neurolinked?

unless of course you're the highest ranking official in an empire?

the Dalamud-meteor project measured and executed.

"As the project progressed, it aimed specifically to guide the descent of the lesser moon, Dalamud, onto Eorzea in order to annihilate the realm's out-of-control primal threat and resistance to Imperial rule in one motion.[1] The realization of this plan in 1572 under the combined might of the VIIth and XIVth Imperial Legions directly led to the seventh Calamity."

and as for the bolded part: KILL 'EM ALL!

    and that.
nice judgement, killing of an entire race simply by looking at their worst denominator.
If we use the empire's way of thinking and logic, we are justified in destroying the empire and killing every men, women and child until nothing is left of them.

Pureblood Garleans are physically incapable of using magic. It's what lead to them developing magitek.

    Roman Empire? Are you kidding?
I simply can't believe that people can actually root for the Garlean Empire, who would turn the world into a mechanical totalitarian nightmare. Do you need more explanation why our (REAL) world is so messed up? Don't look further. People like the darn Garlean Empire, though the devs do their best to paint them as absolute villains. And STILL people root for them. Unbelievable.
It's like people in WoW rooting for the Burning Legion.
I'd say "get a grip, folks", but I know it's no use. You'll get no grip.
Also, this thread is probably the nadir of my whole Internet experience. It's really scary and depressing, beyond words.
