Eorzea and the Garlean Empire both have a common goal: Elimination of the primal threat forever. Only our means differ.

The Eorzean alliance in some misguided view doesn't want kill the source of the problem, the beastmen. The beastmen as a whole are not friendly with the races of man and will never stop trying to kill us or summon primals. I agree with the empire, genocide all the beastman races and we could work together to do that.

It would be killing two birds with one stone. Stop the incessant beastmen attacks and kill off the primals in one go. I see no need to preserve the beastmen when they are a wholly negative influence on Eorzea.

Wow How easily you fall for Their propaganda. Garleans use the primal threat to justify world domination. They want to conquer the world and enslave all nongarleans and if you think its any different Look at Doma. The Primal/Eikon threat is just propaganda to cover their naked aggression.

No, they used dragons as living batteries and spliced different kinds of creatures together. Allagans were quite cruel in their prime. It's impossible to know the various situations in allag since it's too long ago for anyone to have clear knowledge.

Azys Lla will really put things in perspective for you once you get there.

Other notable facts:
"Aquisition" of specific races for experimentation seemed to be a perfectly legal demand in Allag. (Azys Lla)
Completely altering the truth of Odin and Urth to suit propaganda (this is straight out of the lore breakdown from the anniversary broadcast)
(Mild Coil Spoiler): When you consider Bahamut's coils were designed to be a life support-energy generator, that's pretty inhumane.
When you do get to Azys Lla, go see the "Quarantine Sector". . . They make Ishgard look like Gridania.

Can I say very honestly I don't want to ally with them, but do want to use a gunblade like the one Gaius had? I at least want to glamour the armor, or something. The empire is stylish beyond compare.

Beh. People just want to play bad guys. And they are bad. Their answer to deal with Eorzea after the first attempt was "LET'S DROP A FRIKKIN MOON ON THEM". And they would've succeeded, if it didn't end up containing an exploding dragon god of rage. Instead of completely annihilating every last man, woman and child in Eorzea, they simply caused mass destruction on such a scale that in was considered the end of an Astral Era.

Sure. If they took over the world, there might be peace. You would just have do everything those who rule say to do. Which may include being conscripted in their army as cannon fodder, be used as slave labor, or used as "entertainment". Disagree, and maybe if you're lucky, you'll just be killed. If they feel like an example needs to be made, they'll kill your spouse, your children, your parents, and your chocobo. Then burn their bodies and all your property to ashes. THEN kill you. After torturing you. For a few months. In public.

Dunno if you just wanna play a villain (which is fine. Who doesn't like playing the bad guy from time to time), or you honestly don't think that's THAT evil and the end justifies the means(which merits an eye roll you dark, edgy person, you.), but they're practically at Saturday Morning Cartoon levels of villainy. The only way they could be more plainly evil is if they all had mustaches they twirled while plotting, and black capes...

Sure the leaders of Garlean Empire, that we've seen so far, have shown us their interest in overtaking Eorzea but that doesn't mean all of the peoples are bad. It would most certainly be interesting to see the other side of the coin. Perhaps the Garlean Empire is not all we have perceived.

In any case, I think the OP wants to play as an actual villian and who am I to judge? I would definitely check it out if that was done.

And we know that Golbez was being mind-controlled by a person from the moon ...

Additionally, didn't the 1st Garlean Emperor have many of his family members assassinated and that it was Nael (or was it Gaius) that carried out all that killing?

Might explain why Varis spits on his grandfather's coffin
