I pretty much discovered it cause I just wanted to see slug shot's animation by just mashing it on the dummy. Neat that you can take advantage of this with ammo, still don't like it though.Think of it as a fail safe, machinist has a lot to keep track on and that micromanagement can sometimes lead to messing up like accidentally pressing slug instead of split, if such thing happens there is still a chance that clean procs so that your mess up don't end up ruining it all.
I'm not saying that it is the reason why, just that it can't hurt to have something like a net every now and then.
You could actually technically get higher Wildfire numbers by replacing our standard opener to capitalize on this. Shifting all the weaponskills one step forward in the cycle.
Split, Slug, Clean, Split, Slug, Split, Clean, Slug
with
Slug, Clean, Split, Slug, Split, Clean, Slug, Clean
Gives you 3 Clean Shots in a Wildfire, which is 20 more potency in the Wildfire at the cost of 40 less potency outside it, due to that first Slug Shot only hitting for 100 vs a 140'd Split Shot.
Not really worth it at all, but a nice gimmick.

I used to use second way, I mean:
Slug, Clean, Split, Slug, Split, Clean, Slug, Clean
But the last Clean is out of Wildfire, maybe EU lag, I don't know, but I'm using Rapid Fire after the first Clean getting 2 Splits with no casts, and just 1 oGCD between weaponskills. (after the last Slug, I use Quick Reload for 100% Clean.)
Most of the Wildfire rotations I've seen don't use it until after the first Split Shot, which is what I've been doing. You could actually technically get higher Wildfire numbers by replacing our standard opener to capitalize on this. Shifting all the weaponskills one step forward in the cycle.
