You know sometimes I just wonder...I wonder if I'll ever get back that feeling I had from when I played XI for the first time.
I invested 7 years of my life into that game even when I was extremly busy with real life I always found time to log on at least once a week to just sit and chat with my linkshell. I made friends I thought I would never have, I still talk to many to this very day outside the game.
The only reason I found these people was the common thread that linked us together, we loved the game, and everything it offered. Their was always something to do, no matter how much you leveled or how much time you had. Their was always a area you have not seen, a NPC you haven't talked to, a map you never got, a friend in need!
XIV has none of this, it's a blind rush to the end and what awaits us at the end? Nothing.
Watching this video actually made me rather nostalgic, it's a shame XI isn't really the same game it was anymore either. I'm still willing to give this game time as I enjoy it for the time being, but I do hope that even at my slow and steady pace the game eventually becomes something that I am more actively interested in.
I wonder if people like you ever have experiences like this. I hope someday we can all enjoy our adventures in Eorzea and remember what it means to be an adventurer.
You obviously don't understand or don't want to understand the point I'm trying to make. I've never said there should be no teleporting but you don't want to see past that so I'll just let it stay there.
You think I don't want people to ever be able to teleport then go ahead and think that. It's sad really.

Clearly you want people to walk more than they do (at a time when many people actually want to be able to teleport more than they can now with the 100 Anima restriction). What you want can be achieved without making any changes whatsoever. That's really the point I'm trying to make. If you're not having fun exploring the world more slowly it's because you choose not to. You don't have to force anyone else into it.

by your logic over the last few pages:Clearly you want people to walk more than they do (at a time when many people actually want to be able to teleport more than they can now with the 100 Anima restriction). you're basically arguing if people want to just instant transport everywhere we should let them, and others who want to experience the game can walk. you're saying its a choice....
So continuing along that logic, that choice is the best way for a game to be....
Lets give people the -CHOICE- to get whatever gear they want. People who want to play the game can raid for it, but lets just give everyone the ability to choose any gear.
Lets give people the -CHOICE- to choose their level. Why should I have to mindlessly grind my crafts all day for hours? I should have a level up button.
see where im going with this?
You say walking is a chore, but grinding crafts is WAY more of a repetitive chore than walking is. Same with soloing the same mobs over and over and over for hours.
You either have a game, which requires people to invest time
or you have a game where people -choose- what to do (ex. cheat mode always on)
How can you logically argue for a middleground?
Mew!
Yeah, you're distracting from the issue by making it seem more complicated than it is.by your logic over the last few pages:

The issue is simply one of enjoying the journey. You would like to enjoy it, and I'm telling you there's absolutely nothing stopping you.
If you don't like teleporting, then don't. There's nothing standing in your way from moving around as slowly as you like. What does it matter to you how fast anyone else travels?
Your enjoyment shouldn't come from impeding others.

again i can make the same argument about levelling. Why should you care if i auto-level? Its not impeding your game play? why should you care if i get all the best gear in the game instantly?Yeah, you're distracting from the issue by making it seem more complicated than it is.

The reason i care is because it ruins the whole feel of the game. It also lessens the chance that they will ever generate content based on the airship and will just leave it empty to please the -few- people who will ride it once. It also hurts the game in general. Instant travel ruins the sense of adventure that FFXI had. And this game isn't competitive enough to lose that.
Mew!
if you like ff11. go play that. this is not ff11 and we are gonna have faster means of travel. thats a fact. get over it. and as your thread states most people do not want to walk and thats not fun.again i can make the same argument about levelling. Why should you care if i auto-level? Its not impeding your game play? why should you care if i get all the best gear in the game instantly?

You must understand what keeps people playing is fun (WoW) not immersion (FF11) (WoW 10 million subs FF11 500k subs? if that)

I agree with everything you just said. People think they'll be happy if they get everything on a silver platter in an instance but this game isn't a Sims stuff pack. There is no reward in game if it's not attached to some kind of gameplay or challenge. You know sometimes I just wonder...I wonder if I'll ever get back that feeling I had from when I played XI for the first time.

It's the game designers job to make us want and need the rewards not to just give everything because then there isn't anything to strive for anymore.
I don't consider maps or skills or teleports being given to us. If anything they've taken these carrots away and are now struggling to come up with rewards that are in any way meaningful to the player. You can only do a +1 gear upgrade so many times until you realize it doesn't change the way you pla the game at all.
Why did SE bother making an entire world if this is what it's going to anyway?
