You want me to post something relevant more than before okay.

I hope it stays and I hope it doesn't get disqualified, my reasons?

Not all those hairstyles are peoples own creations if you think about it, some are from anime series and since they copied those shouldn't they be disqualified by your logic taking someone else work? I mean I could pull a few hairstyles from anime's even the one with ponytails from Mikumiku dance just straight down in back and shorter or Tolone from xenogears just moved to the back.

Some look like they came from Aion so why you making a huge deal out of it? Do you hate this person or something?

So I don't think anyone should be disqualified.

It's like using Google Images to find a picture of something, then claiming you drew it yourself.

Copy and pasting isn't your own work even if you alter the image one pony tail or bang or anything else doesn't make it yours.

Grabbing a wig makes no difference. Now if someone made a hairstyle from scratch from their own imagination then I can see that would work not grabbing something that exist and that would be hard cause most hairstyles are taken.

No one said "copypasting", they said "taking inspiration from, and drawing it yourself". Those are two very different things. (Drawing can be replaced with digitally painting, or whatever other media the artist is comfortable using.) Even if you look at a source image and draw a hairstyle similar to that -- maybe even as similar as you can make it -- it's still something you yourself drew. You may not hold the copyright to the original image, but you sure do to the image you yourself drew.

Of course, if you draw it too similar, like some people do when they recreate a photo as a painting, it probably would be grounds for disqualification anyway. If you can hold up the original image next to the drawn one and say, "Yeah, this is the exact same picture," then that's not a good thing to hand in for a contest or otherwise claim it's your own original art piece. And the more complex the art in question is, the further away from the inspiration you need to be in order to get away from plagiarism.

Some contests for this reason tend to state that they don't allow derivatives of someone else's work either, but avoiding derivatives is a lot more difficult when it's such a 'minor' detail that a hairstyle is. Like people have mentioned, even you yourself, pretty much any hair style can be said to exist already.

The issue isn't so much "this hair style can be seen in this or that anime/movie/game", because you can probably say that about most hair styles entered. It's "they googled an image, cropped it, then submitted it as their own art".

You've missed the context. The guy didn't even draw it to be similar to an existing one. He took someone else's actual drawing and passing it off as his own.

Like, it's be like me wanting something similar to clouds hair, and I put this as my entry https://www.google.com/search?q=clou...YbfJj9hshtM%3A

Now should I be even considered as a entry at that point, let alone win with that entry?

You're missing the entire point of this thread, over and over again. These people below have it fairly spot on. But you're basically encouraging Art Theft and this is NOT ok with me, or any other artist who works hard on their art.

It's okay to have a similar hairstyle so long as it's YOUR own work and drawn in YOUR own hand. Not someone else.

These were SE's strict rules of entries. See how it says it should be created by the entrant? And Regardless if it was their work or not, they violated the rule of posting it before the contest submissions were selected.

They're probably not going to respond to the thread even if they've noticed and forwarded the info. They tend to drop the ball on making sure players uphold the rules of their contests; they're good like that :O
