I definitely think the story mode should never have existed, or it should have at least been a 'middle ground'. Something that is too hard to clear in duty finder, but easier than savage difficulty. Maybe on par with extreme primals?

    But alas~

IT's a form of horizontal progression for those that don't want to do savage: maybe some of the alexander normal pieces are actually better than the i200 eso statwise, or they like the glamour. Also, the savage crowd wouldn't have to have had killed the Oppressor like 20 times before even getting into the fight on savage release day.

If it's Eso equivalent then everyone would be in full 200 within a couple weeks between Alexander normal drops and tomes, and no one who was doing Savage before that point would bother doing normal at all because they'd already have 210.

It would also mean that savage would have to drop items 30 ilvls above what was attainable when Alexander normal was released. Which, again, would mess up progression really hard as they'd either have to nerf Savage to be completable in full law, at least for A1/A2 or no one would be able to beat Savage until Eso was out and people would still have to grind Alex normal and. . .

    Long story short: No.

If we ignoring Alex normal mode, there is still more different content, as we got at the release with Realm Reborn or any patch later.

Or they can just not release a Savage mode. Considering which one is actually being completed regularly with success rates.

Most of the people whining about Normal would still be whining if it wasn't there so....

Please show me on the map where the endgame PvE content is after you have your Ravana weapons after the tome cap.

So we're to log in, run a dungeon once, log out and there's our progression? How about no?

As a veteran raider (in FFXI, WoW, wildstar and FFXIV, but mostly in wow) I can tell you there are two types of bosses (not necessarily taking difficulty into account) :

    1) the boss which feels boring when you attempt it,
    2) the boss on which you have fun while attempting it.

If you have to make a lot of attempts on a boss of the first type of boss, then you ll most likely quit raiding soon. If you have to make a lot of attempts on the second type of boss, then wiping won't be an issue. We saw that very well on wow. Some bosses were very hard and required a lot of attempts, but everybody was more than happy to come wipe on it (like Muru in the Sunwell). Some bosses were very hard but people simply didn't have fun on those (like anub arak heroic in the patch trial of the crusader). It is due to how the boss feel when you are fighting against it. In wow the issue started to arise when they implemented the hard modes for bosses. Back then the difficulty of some heroic bosses felt as if it has been artificially inflated, and not due to any particular mechanics. And I think the issue is the same in FFXIV (and that's why I stopped to do alexander savage).

If story was all that got you excited (not the challenge) then Savage might not be for you. If you need one to get excited for the other, maybe you don't really want the other thing?
Please we re supposed to be playing a RPG, of course the story should be the motivation for clearing a raid (rather than the gear). The main point of the difficulty is to make things immersive (one cannot expect a fight against bahamut to be easy). This also bring the question of how hard a raiding encounter should be in order to be fun, in regards to the specific mechanics of the fight, which is a very complex matter.

Why not just have different instances altogether? Different levels of difficulty for the same content has never benefited raiders - but it's great for devs. Of course running the same thing over and over leads to boredom and burnout.

You mean like two different raids? Well for one we do have that, 3.1 will bring in the casual raid, and 3.2 Alexander part 2, and so on. As for two different raids on the same patch, it'll take far too much development time with SE's presumably quite small team.

Normal mode instead of echo and nerf, but the same time they have done coil with echon and nerf.
I think normal was/is a mistake. Like LFR trivialized raiding in Wow, it's doing more or less the same in FFXIV. Already burned out from normal mode so most likely won't be doing savage cuz I've basically just don't the raid a hundred times already. Not the way to go imo.

But yeah, releasing normal when the new savage part is released could do the trick.
