This. Of course we aren't going to do mass tons of AOE damage, such is not a MNK's function (very limited AEO) But I am going to single one out one by one (the one the tank is targeting) and kill them ASAP and move on to the next enemy the tank targets.

As a tank I'd much prefer to see the melee DPS finish off low health enemies so the damage I take is reduced, putting less strain on the healer and generally ensuring that I don't have to move and position stuff as often as I would if I've an additional enemy to watch out for.
This is where that magical hate meter comes to play, you attack until your yellow/orange, then switch to a new target. You don't go guns ablaze on just one target.
MNK can do some pretty hefty AE now. Especially if you GL3 then PB RB spam.
Depends, if its below 10% and a trash mob, go nuts and kill, if youre any good then it will die before it does any damage if you peel the mob.
When I tank (PLD), I prefer having mobs killed and not wait for the entire pack to die. In a large group, I'm AOE'ing enmity - mostly using flash - while constantly moving to avoid all the mob AOE. I need the pack to get down to 3 or less so I can focus on recovering my MP using RoH while rotating among the 3 left, so I'm ready for the next pull.
If I'm keeping up my enmity AOE, there is no way a single target DPS will pull hate.
The logic of this OP just blows my mind right now. So in conclusion, group of 8 targets, a pair are at 20% and the rest are at 60%. I'll remember not to leave the 20% alive any longer so the can continue to wail on the tank/other party member.
Also does this OP logic apply to adds during boss battles now...?
Is it reset Tuesday yet.
I question whether I'm playing a PvE game with PvP mixed in, or I am I playing a PfG.
DPS in general should be focusing by priority as established by the situation. That goes for the BLM as well with the nerf they took to the AOE rotation. Your damage needs to be focused where it is most needed--be that the highest threat or HP order...it depends in the situation. If you are too rigid in your play style things can fall apart too easily when something unexpected happens.
Monitor what is going on and adjust accordingly.
Mobs do exactly the same damage to the Tank at 1% hp as they do at 100% hp.
If you have a Caster AoEing their little hearts out, damn straight I'm going to pick the low ones and finish them off.
Mildly offtopic but sorta relevant:
As a personal gripe, i don't understand why people grab all 4 Bees in Neverreap and try to AoE them down. They have too much HP without both BLM's or SMN's PLUS the Healer going to town with AoE. Grab 2, nuke em down, grab 2 nuke em down -> move on. /shrug.
(As a disclaimer, My best Neverreap run on my Warrior was with a Bard and Monk, 19 minutes from first trash pack to end boss dead)
Or... You yourself could attack the one with the most HP or just switch target when you see it is about to die.
Edit: If you're a BLM or a SMN, that is :P

I can see the point that is being made, but if a tank has tons of mobs on them, and the healer is trying to keep up and keep them alive - it would make more sense to get the lower ones down first so 1) the tank has less to hold hate on 2) less chance of someone else getting aggro of the tank with so many mobs and 3) the healer has less to worry about faster.
So yeah, if I'm in with a BLM/SMN - I am going to take down the ones with the lowest health to thin out the threat faster. Just because they are low on health doesn't mean they aren't a threat anymore.
I tank as well, and I would hop people would take down the lower ones to get rid of the mobs faster too. XD
