this is fine on populated world since someone will probly do it, but on empty worlds sounds like a recipe for disasters

I hope this could come in 4.0, if we show that we want it.
But it seems that most people are just afraid they would have to spend 5 minutes to find a vendor.
In my opinion game cannot be hurt by having some side-story unimportant NPCs roaming the world instead of being stuck at one place and if there is some story and dynamic quest related to them, it is even better.
If this is to be implemented, just make sure that the item or rewards are exclusive to the scenarios only. FATEs already give unique rewards such as minions, so these special dynamic fates will have to have some other kinds of unique items.
Also, gating a material for crafting behind this kind of content would only serve to agitate the already agitated crafters community.
The dynamic event requires several points:
-> Will start at specific time for a specific period.
-> Will affect the outside world or NPCs.
-> Will have to have an impact on players.
-> Will scale to the available amount of players involved.
If we're going to do this ala Fates.... the scaling would have to be better or different. The impact on player should not include gameplay changes by offering advantages on skills/spells but can have an impact on gameplay executions:
If you complete a dynamic event, a trader will appear to sell you discounted premier items for a short time, or the area's fates will have a certain increase in experience points multiplier, or spawn a chain events of fates regarding the dynamic event will result in better item vendors, or a scenery change that includes specially placed NPCs and lore.
I think we're still going to upset some people but at least we got some variety of actions that will have impact in the overworld.
Love the idea, it reminds me of Witcher 3 where the player can help a trader or just walk away from them. If you dont help the trader, he dies and he will never show up. I want to see such feature in this game, but can the servers handle it? Everytime the players want new stuff: horns being allowed for different faces, more inventory space, new housing, the answer is always "We have issues with server memory and at this moment can not add it".
Untill they fix the server memory stuff, I doubt we will get anything new, aside from the usual, hunts, dungeons, raids and fates.
Or you can just make the NPCs solo defendable. This is the kind of thing that I can only see going two ways:
1) The NPC doesn't really carry or offer anything of importance so besides doing it a few times for the novelty, it'll wind up becoming something that everyone ignores. Kind of like the FATEs we have now that open up minion shops that no one does anymore.
2) The NPC does carry something important or is otherwise tied to a crucial service, in which case it becomes more tedious than fun after the first few runs. FFXI's Besieged was quite similar with how you lost various services when you were defeated and you could also lose NPCs even if you won. Heaven help you if you actually needed that service or NPC. Then you had to hope you could find competent people to go raid the beastman stronghold to retrieve the Astral Candescence and any captured NPCs. Was fun the first few times, quickly became a pain in the ass after the umpteenth time. That's not the kind of thing I'd want carried over to FFXIV.
A dynamic world is fine, but having consequences for people not being around or participating sounds like a bad idea to me.

There is already a Qiqrin shopkeep that wanders around and only sells things during specific times when he's at his shop.
I think that's where you get a minion, too. It's an NPC-exclusive thing, yet isn't game breaking in any way. Adds a little life to the area. In fact, the entire area (Upper LN) has NPCs that do various things depending on what's going on. Their dialog changes if you win or lose a specific fate, too, I believe.
I'd like more of this.

I'd love to see a more dynamic overworld, and I think FATE's are a great way to get started. They're visible, predictable, and scalable, and can have various outcomes depending on the completion of the FATE. +1 from me.
OP... you make me use this for the third time in this foums...
Tho I understand your wish to have a lively world, your method is not viable with a whiny community, people that feel that, by paying for the game, the game should go all ways so they "experience" everything th game has to offer and in a way they want lore or not...
I would LOVE a system like those of "the game that should not be named" where by server actions, beastment kidnapped npc and people should go and rescue them, in big scale server battles... that felt epic as heck...
But this game is holding its punches OP, its just not very viable and will not be well recived...

Completely wrong.
Nothing is stopping us from getting anything ..nothing is stopping dev comments other then the dev themselves. Dont be blind and think its becuse of of us.
Many have suggested very good qol and major to minor ingame changes without a word of acknowledgement from anyone.
Dont blame the players , blame those that refuse to even come see the suggestions from their customers, or those that may not be forwarding them.
At any rate op I dont think its a bad idea at all , anything to add some life is a good thing.
Theres not one single feature that would be BAM wow!!!! thats gonna spark all kinds of new life into the worlds but every bit can't hurt.![]()
♥ MORE HIGH HEELS + INSTANCED HOUSING! ♥!
