    Fights taking that long to kill are seriously bad for your health.

    You're aware of Koreans dying because they spend too much time at the computer and neglect everything else right? I've heard the stories of babies dying to neglect because parents are too busy playing games.

    18 hour fights are a legit shitty idea.

    PW originally had 19 forms + final form it was later nerfed to 10 forms + final form and 2 hour time limit. The first group to get to the final form had no idea how to fight the final form which is why they lost. SE nerfed it to 10 forms and 2 hour time limit because they didn't want people who keep zombing and raising when they should of lost. When they took out 9 phases of the fight a lot more groups got it to the final form and were able to kill it after someone found out a strat. What made the final form hard was he every 25% he would summon all the avatars in the game and astralflow you which was instant death to everyone to get around this people used rotating bards and then had 3 summoners use Alexander perfect defense which gave invincible for 3 min so everyone could zerg him down and not be killed by avatars.

    Had the first group realized the start they would of beat it for sure. I beat this fight post nerf and it wasn't that hard.

    Ehhh... idk about that tbh.

    I remember hearing about that back when it happened. It sounded pretty legendary back then and even today it's impressive to think about, but I'm sure it was NOT in the least bit fun for the people who fought it. I love the idea of an near-unbeatable superboss too, in theory, but in reality it's problematic and unhealthy and even dangerous to have to fight something for so long that you have to practically pull work shifts to kill it and still can't. Not to mention it's unrealistic. People were getting sick, and still trying to fight that thing... No, I think we can leave that to XI, especially considering that XIV was designed to be a lot more casual friendly.

    What I would like to see brought over from xi though, is the tiered boss fight system. Where you would have to kill a series of single boss fights to collect items that would then be used to summon a sort of mega-boss, that would all drop some sought-after gear and other useful things. It was a fun system for the most part.

    I've heard of it happening with WoW, Diablo 3, and both Starcrafts. I'm sure it's happened with other games, though I dunno which ones.

    PW wasn't unbeatable, people just tried to cheese the fight and wound up spending 18 hours doing the fight the wrong way.

    Did the XI development team even play test this boss before they released it? I cannot fathom the logic behind the encounter's design.....

    They likely did, but they already knew their intended strategies for AV and PW. Much of what made the two fights so difficult is how mechanics worked and the intended counters were unknown by the players.

    Knowing that killing the previous boss's pets enough and then casting the spell of the day enough would stop AV's regen and that you can lock AV's uses of 2 hours by properly timed use of your own two hour abilities makes that fight far easier. Not knowing those two things pretty much makes the HNM impossible to kill.

    The first 19 forms were just bosses that were already in the game. The last form that had the avatars that astral flow and kill everyone the group fighting it had no idea what to do so they kept zombieing, if they used perfect defense and zerg it they would of won.

    SE put in the 2 hour time limit to prevent constant raising over and over from wipes. Either you beat the fight without many deaths or not. The fight was hardly unbeatable its just people didn't know the strat when it was new. AV was a much more unbeatable fight then PW was.
