While there is some originality, for the most part people regurgitate the same ideas and then are offended when people aren't impressed. You think you're the first person to ask for blue mage/time mage/dancer etc etc? Other ideas seem more like fanfic that would never fit into a FF game. To me they sometime seem more like pointless "vanity" topics because the dev team will already have plans for jobs, they're not going to take random ideas from the forums. These weird and original jobs will never become reality so while I'm sure it's fun for the OP, what purpose do they have really?

Though I agree there's no need to be pointlessly mean, personally I just ignore them.

    Because usually:

They have made the same topic as someone else where people have already had a lengthy debate on the subject - restarting a debate is aggravating especially when people have already covered and debated similar concepts just a few days ago in most cases

They don't want to listen to the criticism - if they post a concept it will be broken down by people with more time and knowledge than them and they refuse to acknowledge that these people know more about the game, the lore, or the game engine than them.

They don't balance their idea around all the other jobs in the game or they completely ignore aspects of the lore to try and shoe horn their concept in - Just because its their idea doesn't mean they get to ignore the other jobs in the game and what they bring to the table in terms of utility and numbers, and they can't blatantly ignore aspects of the lore just so their idea has more grounding this later point is less applicable in most cases because most people don't even bother with how the job fits in with the world half the time and try to tack that on at the end which is just lazy.

    -

Usually its one of these that sets it off.

At the end of the day all I usually see is people rehashing ideas from other games trying to shoe horn them into FFXIV or its people who want things to change to make a class OP and broken so as far as I am concerned they didn't bother putting that much effort in at all.

I wont respond to this post, it is my opinion and you can disagree with it all you like.

I agree with your OP, but man if the Forums took this stance (being nice in general overall), many people wouldnt post lol.

I think after a while it just feels like pointless conversation cause while yes I"ve had fun thinking of a job idea, when it comes down to it the conversation is not something that will be taken seriously by the development team and most likely not affect anything at all.

Conversations that focus on what's in the game, and how to expand on those serve to support the game but as for creating a whole job idea abilities, traits etc it just doesn't lead to anything constructive in terms of the future of the game, at this point in time.

With that said I think what could be fun is rather than thinking of jobs as a whole is maybe just guessing how jobs would play, we have Ninja that focus on using jutsu along with their combos, blm with fire/ice balance, monks with their stances, etc etc if you build on with thinking how those work, you can take a guess as to how other jobs might work.

Like let's say Samurai for example, we know from what's been told that they had thought about making it a tank job but instead they went with DRK, with that in mind Samurai could possibly go in either direction still but as a tank it would most likely be parry, as a DD it could potentially play like Cyan except more active than how his charging worked with the longer you wait the "better" the ability lol. In my eyes I see a potential Samurai working in the sense of each slash/action sheathes the blade, however in this sense maybe we could consider samurai as the close quarters equivalent of how BRD/MCH work now but rather than be one with "casting" times, it's a game of the longer you stand still the more potent you are and it lowers or resets when you are forced to move.

But ye know little bits like that could be fun, when you try to list every ability, every trait it's just to much information to take in, and it's easy to criticize the issues with what's in front of you because when you are trying to fill in all the blanks, it's easy to see when something might be to OP.

People will usually focus on the one small element they dislike, and mentally magnify it out to encompass the entire concept - then call the whole thing 'useless'... rather than separate out the disliked portion and either suggest alternatives or way to fix it.

In a world where 'all opinions are valid', there is no 'logical mental space' for the idea of cracking open someone's opinion and analyzing the portions to find what parts work and what don't, and discussing how to improve or fix the flaws...

Instead... when one hits the natural conflict between 'all opinions are valid' and 'that crack is wack'... the only mental tool left is complete rejection...

"This will never happen because reasons"

Way to discourage the creative mind, people. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say it at all.
The reasons why it happens are simple:
1- MMO forums are notorious for being bad places for constructive discussions.
2- Because people tend to have varying opinions of what X Job should play like/be in theme.

Everyone has their idea for what the next class/race/whatever should be. That's fine. That being said, some of them really are pretty stupid. Some are thought out, but others border on a fanboy level of obsession for something that doesn't even belong in a Final Fantasy, and of course, it's usually overpowered beyond compare. That's fine, too. Those things will NEVER happen, and shouldn't. Some people just aren't tactful enough to see something very stupid, and tell them "That's stupid", while being polite about it. That being said, I'm one of those waiting for the day I can play my favorite class/race combo. Something they've actually teased about a couple times, with concept art of the race, and casual mentioning of said class being a favorite.

It's partly because everyone has their own vision for each job, and when a poster makes a thread detailing their vision...if it doesn't match, people get defensive, because they think "SQUARE ENIX WILL MAKE IT LIKE THIS AND NOT LIKE MINE"

I'm guilty of it in Dancer threads to be honest >.< SAY NO TO TANK DANCER.
