It's not, really, as the primary signifier of DPS not doing their job is things not dying quickly enough. If things aren't dying quickly enough, you know the DPS aren't performing adequately. Is it sometimes difficult to pinpoint which DPS is underper-forming? Yes. But the same could be said of healers in Full Parties--you can't always tell which one at a glance isn't pulling their weight.

It's also worth noting that, while not a perfect gauge of performance, you *can* use the enmity rankings to have a rough idea of how the DPS are ranked, which can often provide enough information to make a judgement as to which DPS is doing poorly. Is the DRG lower on the enmity meter than the BRD? He's probably not pulling his weight. You can't get a really detailed look in that regard, but you can get a general idea.
