First of all I'd like to remember you that now equipment has a very little influence on the game, personally tested on my skin... The stat bonus given by equip doesn't work, attack, defense, evasion can sure have their influence in fight but it is very difficult notice it. Furthermore in past you could hit R20 in 2 days, without any reasons to spend your money on useless equip in range R1-20. Because of these things people may choose to buy R50 gear spending fewer gil than buying R30ish (example), and fight with it until they reach rank 50. It destroyed the economy of the game and damaged the game itself...
P.S.
Sorry for bad english.
so to understnad your point Enma, you want grinding 1~20 to be longer and harder, with gear that is class locked. Just so you can sell low rank gear?
I can't believe the development team would even consider removing this system and replacing it with another when all they need to do is make stats actually matter, and by extension, make the penalties for wearing gear outside of one's optimal rank more severe.
Surely they have better things to do than destroy already-functional systems (which is effectively what they are doing by replacing the optimal rank system with a much more restrictive and annoying required class/rank gear system).
Not only does it make the whole game appear overly-complicated and convoluted, but it is removing player freedom at the same time.
I could understand job/level locked gear but I'd wish they'd keep it to just Jobs. Let the classes remain adaptable and let them use the optimal ranks.
Win/Win.
They are not removing it.I can't believe the development team would even consider removing this system and replacing it with another when all they need to do is make stats actually matter, and by extension, make the penalties for wearing gear outside of one's optimal rank more severe.

I really hope so. This game was already mutilated in so many ways its not even fun anymore...and removing even the optimal/favor system would be a tremendous mistake, making it even worse.
I really wish we had a test server here too...just like the one added in FFXI...i would love being able to try out the planned changes before they going live...it would be good for dev team, good for us and good for the game itself since often we see different perception between dev team and playerbase regarding aspects from the game...and it would be a good way to find balance of content before they patch goes live.
So true.
The game was released as a mixture of incompatible ideas (e.g., an armory system where you could mix and match and change classes at any time, but no way to remember your stats/abilities). But now it's only getting worse as they continue to add incompatible features instead of helping to accommodate their original features.
Listening to complaints is good, but bowing to them regardless of repercussions is not!
Hello!
Thanks for your feedback on the class specific, rank requirement equipment.
We spoke once more with Yoshi-P about this. He thinks that it is necessary to have class specific and rank requirements on equipment so that each class has individuality and so that there is a good amount of motivation to become a class and rank up. However, not all equipment will have these restrictions and we will of course be adding equipment making sure to keep balance.
Yoshi-P would like to comment on his plans in regards to this, so based on your feedback he will be posting in the near future (about 1 week or so).
