I like the balance of nice-restricted gear versus basic generic gear. Not everyone plans on main-ing the jobs they're getting up - some of us just want the bonus abilities. The ability to not have to waste our time earning "nicer" gear for those jobs is something I'd hate to see go away.

Thanks for your feedback on the class specific, rank requirement equipment.

We spoke once more with Yoshi-P about this. He thinks that it is necessary to have class specific and rank requirements on equipment so that each class has individuality and so that there is a good amount of motivation to become a class and rank up. However, not all equipment will have these restrictions and we will of course be adding equipment making sure to keep balance.

Yoshi-P would like to comment on his plans in regards to this, so based on your feedback he will be posting in the near future (about 1 week or so).
I much prefer rankless and classless equipments since I change class often, it is much more practical. Hopefully, players like me who also like rankless/classless equipments will also lots of them being added.

For each pieces of equipment, there could be an option (when crafting, or random if dropped from a monster) to choose if we want that piece of equipment to have restrictions or not. If it has restrictions, it has higher stats and has class and rank requirements. If not, the stats are normal but no requirements to meet (beside optimal rank). So, elitists will be able to have their premium equipments and generalists will be able to wear what they want to wear whenever they want.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

So I would be an elitists if I wanted my gear to be the best it can be? Damn I guess the term casual has gone down a few notches. I remember I was casual when I didn't camp Fafnir...but now I'm Elitist because I don't want my gear to suck.

Your essentially suggesting a Low quality gear system of sorts, and at that point why would it even matter if you could wear the gear if it had terrible stats...for the asthetitics? They have allready pretty much said they are going to continue creating unlocked gear for people who are deafly afraid of having more than one set of gear for their 10 different character classes.

This sounds completely contradictory to what was said earlier, unless of course the added equipment is purely cosmetic "town" gear. Can we please get a definitive and not vague answer? The only reason I ask is that if the answer is vague then there's much more room for speculation. A clear, concise answer is what we need here.

If gear is there to promote class individuality, does that mean that each class will be getting its own type of gear? Like instead of cloth, leather, plate, bone armor there's Pugilist, Gladiator, Archer and Lancer armor?

They merely used the town gear as an example of being new gear that uses the "optimal rank" system, not that only town gear would use "optimal rank".

Its a shame Yoshida thinking restricting gear would actually be a positive thing...delivering a killing blow to armory system just because some players don't want lowbies playing with high rank gear is, at least, terribly concerning.

I'll be looking foward to his official comment regarding it, in a hope that he just confirm crafted gear will keep the optimal rank and only NM and endgame gear will have rank restriction...because this really might end like surplus...doing a change against the playerbase will just because some players want e-peen might end bringing tremendous future issues to the game, being extremely counterproductive in the end.

I'd vote for Class / Job Specific Equipment, and Rank Restricted Equipment as well.

It certainly would allow for something to work towards and strive for, as well as add some class / job distinctness (instead of having Monk, Warrior, Thief all wear the same armor, or, say, Bard, White Mage and Black Mage all wear the same armor - No Thanks).

I'm fine with having some General (Non-Class Specific Gear), for those that want some versatility (saving inventory space, etc.), but there's something special about seeing a classic Final Fantasy Black Mage, or a Dragoon, or a Dancer, etc.

    Thanks.

Then they should just implement gear for typical FF classes which bear bonuses to specific kinds of magic/attacks or something but without the "required class" clause added in there.

That way there is a strong suggestion to wear those types of gear while performing a certain role, but without flat-out imposing a restriction on players.

That doesn't work. It's already in the game right now. There are plenty of players who use Non-Optimal Class, Non-Optimal Rank Gear on a completely off class. It's their prerogative, but it's what's also leading to the bland, homogenized visual look and feel in XIV so far.
