I got told to go commit suicide once, which I can't consider because I don't know how Game of Thrones ends yet. I didn't care so much that someone was angry or trying to offend me as much as the words they used. There are players who are sensitive on this game and could have been very upset by it (reported the guy, but SE seemed to be fine with it though).

Regardless of how you play the game, you don't have to meet anyone else's approval, if someone gets angry it's a sign they play the game way too much and it's likely the game is the most important part of their life. Sadly, I don't think these toxic people will every go away because they feel safe to say such things.

I'd never leave the game because of what any twonk says to me though, in fact, the people on this game are the only reason I renewed my sub. One good person can often outweigh all the bad.

Ever since the game was launched I noticed all the trash came out of the woodwork this game had a awesome community during Pre-Alpha Alpha 1-Beta-4 that was a great community. After the game launched you now have all these elitest trash on these servers. Most of the population is still quite good but there still is a lot of immature people on this game now.

This sadly is not usual at all. It's infuriating for sure, but I'd hate for you to think it's some rare occurrence and that this one thing put you off of MMO gaming.

It can be like this sometimes. I just hope you aren't tempted to be on the other end of it someday. It's easy to do sometimes when there appears to be no repercussions. These people are kind of like vampires, creating more of their kind.

Whether they were right about the ballad thing or not, it's not really important. Is there ever a reason for people to act that way? I've seen people act like that and be totally wrong about the premise that they were belittling over.

    @Boosti,

I know it is frustrating, and I know it's insulting to put up with this kind of nonsense, but I try to use a simple rule in online gaming. The more I like a game that I am playing the less attention I should pay to what strangers think of me, or how I play. If I let some random moron define how I feel about the game, even to the point of quitting, then not only have I lost, but the jerk that made me feel that way has won.

As was discussed in another topic recently, we cannot control how others act or react, but we can control how we react to things or act in the first place. So rather than taking the criticism to heart, ignore it and move on, don't let "The Eye of Moron"(*) win the day.

Add them to your black list. Don't bother putting gil spammers on that list, once they have been complained about they will ultimately be banned, but their character will not be deleted, so their silenced character will remain in your blacklist forever. Use the blacklist for players that annoy you instead of short lived annoyances such as gil spam.

    * - The Eye of Moron : the disembodied collective ignorance, anger, fear, hatred and stupidity of a million immature voices united through the power of anonymity over the Internet - aka the Eye of Moron....

This is exactly what I think too. Even if he was really being a bad DPS, it's not an excuse to be harassed that way.

Meh. Gotta just laugh it off. I do. I was in Fractul the other day with a BLM. I was on BLM also. Had a good healer and tank. Tank was doing big pulls. 6+ mobs. I was doing my normal aoe rotation. Fire II x 2 > flare > transpose > fire III repeat. I noticed the other blm was spamming Fire 1 and throwing in a Fire 4 every now and then. I politely asked him why he wasn't flaring. The tank and healer both lol'd. Then the Blm got butt hurt and asked me why I wasn't using Fire 4. I just lol'd and finished the dungeon. Slowly.

Regardless of whether or not he did the right thing, *that* level of harassment isn't appropriate and I do agree the community is getting more and more toxic. If I have a run where someone isn't being an elitest jerk to someone even in a low level dungeon, it's a miracle. I don't know what's crawled up everyone's behinds, but everyone in my FC has noticed how much worse the attitudes in DF have been lately. I rarely heal for pugs even though whm is my main because the "it's the healers fault for everything" has only been worse. I got blamed for wipes in A3 despite the tanks using sword oath, not using CDs, and two adds getting through so 2 stacks of vulnerability on the party. I called them out to use CDs and was told "Gear means you don't have to use CDs" whatever nonsense that is. Maybe people just need to clear Savage Alex to chill out, but I've just about had it with the bs.

TC, you shouldn't let others decide what you do or stop doing. If you have fun playing FFXIV, play it. If you don't, don't play it. It's that simple. But don't let a bad experience interfere this drastically in your decisions...or else your entire life will be influenced negatively by what others think or stop thinking (when on reality it's ****** irrelevant because the party that harassed you probably doesn't even remember you by now).

Well just going why what he said since we don't know both sides like you said but...he said they immediately attacked him over having ballad up calling him worthless etc. That is not the way to deal with things. You said "he feels he can play however he wants regardless of how it affects the party" but that is assuming he actually knows what is best and isn't doing optimal on purpose. He has no healers leveled so I am assuming he doesn't know that most healers don't need ballad in dungeons and they manage their own MP.

People in general have to start being more inquisitive instead of accusing. If someone is doing something not optimal you could just ask why and casually explain why they would be better off doing something else instead of not asking and just break out into "omg u r sooo stoopid for doing that, u so worthless". It IS possible the person just doesn't know or forgot.

That is not necessarily how things went down but I've had it happen to me. I leveled bard but I rarely play it so I forget things all the time. I've had both sides of people. Ones that ask me to use a song cause I am forgetting which I am glad they reminded me. Or the ones who yell at me "you $%$%#$#& suck bard" cause I am not doing what they want or what they think is best. All they had to do was ask me or let me know what would help them without resorting to raging.

Also lots of players are different. Some might want bards to do one thing during specific encounters while another would prefer you did something else. No one will ever know for sure what you want unless you ask first.

TL;DR - You can't just assume everyone else knows everything you do.

OP don't quit over this. It isn't worth it and you'll never see those players again likely.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but these kinds of people are in every game. You can't get away from them by quitting one. Luckily, they're few and far between. Their advice was good (it's bad to just leave mages' ballad up unless someone really needs mana) but the way they delivered it was vicious and uncalled for. You can do one of two things: ignore them or report them. Don't let assholes ruin your experience or make you quit, because no matter what game you go to you'll end up running into people just like them.

To be fair, A3 normal can be tanked in Sword Oath really easily. I personally wouldn't do it in DF though. It's one thing to do stuff lik ethat in my static group where the healers are prepared for it and we know they're geared for it, but when you DF trials and raids you'd think that everyone should just do everything they can to make sure we get through it with a minimum of fuss. As far as gear meaning you don't need to use CD's, that's just a bad/lazy player making excuses for being bad/lazy. There's no reason whatsoever NOT to use them.
