Honestly, if that person really did just rage on you like you're describing here with no provocation other than mage's ballad. I'd have reported them. It's your choice whether or not you want to let their actions and words bother you so much that it ruins your play experience, but I doubt they're worth all this.

Oh also. With Darkside, I still really have no idea when it's up/down, so I like to have the DRK tell me when it's off so I know when they need some MP back. It's too much of a hassle for me to guess and turn it off/on and not see it working..

Healz was about half MP. I hardly ever turn it on. I do when im asked or i see an issue with there MP. But most of the time its not needed unless your in a raid or something.

look for the glowing red aura around there body thats when you know Darkside is up. If theres no aura its off.

Oh.. then I really don't see the issue. Especially since, unless some very heavy MP usage is coming, you only need to have it on for a few seconds.

I've seen bards go in to battle, pre playing with MB... now that can wipe a party, especially if your DPS is on the cusp.

What job was the healer?

If they were a scholar particularly, you shouldn't worry if they get a bit low. SCH has powerful burst MP regen and low heal costs unless they're having to spam Adlo or something. I'm regularly lazy with my MP management as a SCH because even when I'm lazy and let myself get low, I can build my MP back to to full very quickly. A low MP SCH is often deceitfully low, since Aetherflow gives 20% MP back instantly, is only a 60 second cooldown, can be reset by eating the fairy, and unused Aetherflow stacks should get spent on energy drain which restores chunks of even more MP. So to avoid wasting MP regeneration, SCH kind of has to let itself get a bit low and should be low enough for at least Aetherflow to fill it back up almost on its own if dpsing properly.

If the healer was a WHM/AST, you had more reason to get a little worried. Still, they should know when it's time to stop dpsing and save some MP for heals, and I have yet to have issues with MP when dpsing and healing, even as them.

Doesn't sound like the reaction you got was justified either way. I have low expectations of the community these days too. Can't blame you if you want to leave, I've been tempted to as well a few times.

You've got some thin skin if you're letting a bad experience like that get to you. The bad apples are out there, but don't be one yourself by thinking you should be coddled either. There's a way to offer constructive criticism, which they didn't do correctly. On the flip side, there's a way that's most optimal to use ones abilities, which it sounds like you failed to do yourself. But quitting the game and going so far as to post about it on the forums? That's a bit too much QQ for me, but like I keep saying, such is what I keep seeing every time I come here.

Part of me just comes here anymore to see what absurd things people are going to complain about today. It's almost entertaining to watch the bellyaching and unwarranted self importance some players have. Ok, let me look at this from an outside perspective, because you're only giving us your side of the story.

So i'm in a dungeon having a good time when all of the sudden im being crucified for having Mage's Bailed up. Being told thats it pointless to have up. Mind you i had it up for the sake of the healer maybe wanting to DPS a little.

You're playing mage's ballad when it's not needed. Healers have their own ways of managing mana. In a typical dungeon run, they should never be running out anyway, and they certainly do not need ballad even if they're at 50% in a dungeon run. This also lowers your own damage. If you're playing it to no benefit (which is the case), you're lowering your damage for no payoff. In fact, you have a song that boosts magic damage without lowering your own damage.

See i have a DRK and i know that when you have Darkside up you don't get the effects of Mage's bailed, but what about when its off. Then Mage's bailed does work. So i tell the Bard maybe she should consider not telling people how to play there jobs.

Most DRKs don't turn off darkside if they can properly manage it. Turning it off and turning it on inbetween pulls has no net gain most of the time due to the cost of activation. And especially the bolded part. This is literally the worst thing for me to see in a DF party when people are purposely subperforming or otherwise slowing down their party.

Combine that with above, I can see why some people can get upset with what you're doing (me included). You're giving off the impression that you're free to become a burden to your party. And unfortunately, at that point it's considered a player dispute since you responded, and most GMs would not touch this as far as contesting a vote kick. Because honestly, I'm sure the same would happen if a healer was healing in cleric stance, or a tank was having trouble/clinching onto the brink of death because they won't turn on their tanking stance. I'm fine with people genuinely do not know their class and listen to advice, I'm not fine with people that don't ever communicate and play terribly and essentially get carried.

There are jerks in this game just as in the rest of life and nothing I say in a forum post will change that.

However going by your initial post, you were not fully innocent in the given situation. Yes, the players that you were with were probably jerks and could have been less rude and told you why they thought you should have not be using Mage' Ballad (many of the above posts point out why), but also your own response of "don't tell me how to play my job" could easily come off as quite rude too.

If you were keeping up Ballad for a reason, maybe you should have made that reason known and if the healer then decides to dps more because of it, awesome. If not, then just adjust and drop Ballad since it is not being taken advantage of.

I've dealt with many rude players in this game and there really is nothing I can do about how they act, but I have complete control over how I react. If people are being jerks and rude, don't add gasoline to the fire by reacting in the same way, just keep a level head and express yourself in a calm collected manner. If they then continue to be jerks, just leave as they are not worth your time or energy.
