My solution is you lose the plot after a long time of inactivity but get the stuff you had in it back at an NPC and at least half of the gil that was required to purchase it.

What effort? They introduced the FC housing system and everything worked fine. They spoke and hyped up personal housing for like half a year, and what did they do? Did they actually "Work" on a system? No they didn't they made it so a individual can purchase a house the same way a free company could. There was no effort put into personal housing, they painted themselves into a corner where they made promises they couldn't keep and istead of owning up and saying.
"Hey this personal housing thing is going to take longer than expected and may be different than what we promised" They just slap a button and call it a day.
Until SE decides to make personal housing available to all instead of a lucky few, every issues they resolve with the curent housing system is just making the proper solution more complex over time. I may sound a little blunt but I hate when people try and fix a broken thing when the proper solution is to do it right from the start and not keep putting bandaids onto a broken system.
I have a friend that bought a house and quit the gameTaking away stuff from players because they are not active anymore is terrible, and doesn`t even fit as a solution, as the words of yoshida himself say, he thinks that is a solution, and is horrible.
All i read there is "Why would we work on our coding or servers if we have this lazy alternative that doesn`t even fix the problem but its ok for a few".
I hope they recosider just like at the first time they did thought of this.
.. I doubt they are coming back since they deleted all their stuff before they left. The house is still standing though. Empty.

Some houses on Ragnarok have been abandoned for a year. I really don't see a reason why we should keep limited resources for people who might one day come back.Taking away stuff from players because they are not active anymore is terrible, and doesn`t even fit as a solution, as the words of yoshida himself say, he thinks that is a solution, and is horrible.

Take the house from them, give them gil refund and we are ready to go. I believe we aren't talking about month or two here.
He is definitely not the only one. My FC has over 420 members.. more than 200 of these members haven't logged in for atleast 300 days. This game has lots of returning players but also lots of not returning players.![]()

Good.
As someone who owns a house all to themselves, I think they should have a system where your house gets taken away if you don't play for a couple months.
With housing as it is, you're essentially buying a small part of the server to do with as you please. If you don't even play the game, it's only fair someone else gets to use that part of the server.
(It'd be nice if a partial gil refund was mailed to whoever lost the house though, but seeing as how it'd more likely be someone who has quit and just isn't coming back, I don't blame them if they don't do that.)
I don't have a house, but I am still opposed to this idea.
Why?
Obviously the conditions for housing being relinquished would have to be quite reasonable, but do you really think it's fair that plots remain unused for well over a year (a certain Large in Mist on Phoenix comes to mind...*cough*) take up a very limited resource that only like....<5% of the player base get to make use of? Probably an accurate %, even though FCs can own them there are absolutely tonnes of personally owned houses - which is another thing, having FC and individuals share the same resource. When the second wave of housing came around we were led to believe it would be so much more, but all we got was a flipped copy of the existing zones with individuals being able to snap them up too. After quite a long wait I should add.
A reasonable line would need to be drawn, but over a year? Come on, that's ridiculous. I don't care how much investment they put into it, if actually playing the game isn't an investment they want to make either then they don't have the right to indefinitely lock other players out who would actually use it.

Why should a inactive player keep a limited resource?. Active players should come first.
Don't they do the same in fcs with inactive leaders?.
This community has to be kidding me.
Yesterday, people cry how abandoned houses should be forfeit
Today, when such a feature is announced to be planned, people cry how it's a bad idea.

SE, don't back down this time.
