Housing abandoned plots, this is needed SE!!! Thank you!

A lot of players complain about the housing situation. They want to buy a house, but it is impossible to find free plots on some worlds. Are there any plans to improve the situation?

NY: Yes, we are working on it, and there are three phases. The first step is working on abandoned houses, so there’s no owner, or player there actually. The second step is to make it available to players that they can move house. There is no system in game yet that can help you to change the house, so we want to help and support this in the game. With these two steps we will be able to have some empty plots. Then we want to see if we have to open up an Ishgard plot or add more plot to the existing areas. That is the third step. We want to be careful here and judge the situation first. We are working on step 1 and 2 already. There will be some updates, probably in patches 3.1 to 3.15, around this time.

Taking away stuff from players because they are not active anymore is terrible, and doesn`t even fit as a solution, as the words of yoshida himself say, he thinks that is a solution, and is horrible.
All i read there is "Why would we work on our coding or servers if we have this lazy alternative that doesn`t even fix the problem but its ok for a few".

I hope they recosider just like at the first time they did thought of this.

Hoping they re-work their entire system is a pipe dream. I'm 99.9% certain this will never happen; as such some sort of decay timer is a very viable alternative for players who are not active/subbed for extended periods of time.

I'm glad they're finally going to be doing something about the abandoned plots.

Good to know they're atleast thinking about it.

I wonder how they'll implement the system? No longer active or not, if the player that will lose their house should atleast get an automatic refund of the house's purchase price.

Or by "abandoned" do they just mean plots that don't have anything there at all?

They're likely talking about property where players have un-subbed, or just don't log in for extended periods; it could be an empty plot or a fully deco'd one.

Sorry, but if you're not playing, you're not playing, and you shouldn't be able to hog a limited resource that could be used by other active players. Otherwise you could end up with literally dozens of abandoned houses just sitting around because the players who owned them quit the game, which would mean that either the devs would have to keep adding more and more housing plots to keep up with the demand by new players who would also like to have houses or say "tough luck" to those new players because the available housing has been taken up by people who aren't even playing anymore.

No, I think it's perfectly fair for houses to be reclaimed if the owner has unsubbed or hasn't logged in for a certain amount of time (probably at least three months).

You don't own anything in this game, SE has all rights to it you are just paying them monthly to access it... having said that, they are not taking anything from players - the housing board is reclaiming abandoned property so that someone else can use it Hopefully they add new wards as well as I agree that this is not a complete solution - only temporary relief by doing something that should have been in place from the start like every other MMO that has non-instanced housing plots.

This is a problem that is only going to compound itself with time. Rapid inflation of gil means even mansions are becoming easier for regular single players to obtain meaning new plots that open up are potentially going to be taken up by a single character instead of a Free company.

Personal Housing needs to get instanced. Otherwise no matter how many inactive accounts you nuke the problem will be the same as it was.

I don't disagree, but as I mentioned earlier considering the amount of time/resources/etc. that went into the current housing system it's highly unlikely that they will re-work it. I wouldn't mind seeing restrictions put on future M/L houses so that only FC's could buy those.
