The problem is, if you play longer than an hour a day, you'll finish everything in a few hours. Just look at roulettes, you can fully finish all of them in maybe ~2 hours, then all 3 ranks of hunts take about 30 minutes, all 4 floors of alex take maybe an hour and a half now. There, you just finished all the relevant content for the day/week in abour 4 hours. XIV just throws stuff at you like its going out of style, not to mention the content is easy, the only thing making it difficult (not counting savage) are bad players who "play their way" and cause wipes.
It's not technically speed running when the game has so many caps, you can finish it all very shortly if you know how to manage your time and not only play for ~1 hour a day. To the people who say they only have time for an hour a day, my reply is that you should learn to manage time better. For over a decade, people who have been playing mmos have had work and family, even social lives, yet still played for a good 5+ hours daily. I really feel the people who only play for an hour or less a day don't know how to manage time and live like its the sims (wake up, work/school, home, sleep).
So if you're living like the sims and can't manage time, then sure, there's "plenty to do", but if you know how to manage time and play for 5+ hours (you know, the average playtime people play on a mmo. Yes, mmo, not a facebook/mobile game you spend an hour a day on.) like a lot of us do, then there's not really much to do in XIV and that's why we're bored.
MMOs used to release enough content to last you through the next update, even further(while playing for 5+ hours a day or more), but XIV gives us content that lasts a week, then we're stuck grinding the same 2 dungeons for 4-5 months, which then are thrown out, resulting in the same amount of content. Updates used to add content, not throw away what was just added, they'd build off of it, so then each update there would technically be more of a variety in things to do and would rarely, if ever, get bored, rather than "2 dungeons until next update. Update comes, those dungeons are useless, here's the exact same thing to replace that so you have no new variety".

whaoo, what a kind of post is this, you think that because you can do so or SOME can do so, that eveybody should play so much ? Let me break it down for you, I will take my own case.
Work from 7am to 7pm daily. Come home at 8pm, diner, family, household management, help with schoolwork and the like, husband, whatever....fnishing about 10pm
tell me how many hours do you think I can play a day without feeling exhausted by going to bed at 3 or 4am every day because I want to play more then 1h ?
Just because you believe that what you find normal should be the norm, doesnt make it necesseraly so, unless, of course, you do not speak toy our children, husband and dont care of anything else, then coming home and sitting behind a computer, to get your daily drug dose of mmmos, provided you have a family, children and a family life of course or you are extremly rich to have someone that does everything for you.
Most of those that have a family, dont play from home, but from work, that means they can do so. I, for one, cant so I play only from home. Most of those that have a family, will not sacrifice their family life for a game or would not, so, they are not playing everyday but only let say 2 or 3x a week, most of those that have a family, hve a family for a reason and, I would hope, not to ignore it. I know quiete a bunch that used to play daily for hours as a family, well guess what, they ended up divorced, what is the point in being married to someone that you never see, speak or share anything with ? I am not saying all are only playing 1h a day but all arent either playing 24h a day.
This being said, the content isnt made to be rushed through, people have the choice to rush through or take time....it is not a game meant to suit only one category of players but a wide range and when doing that you, wihtout a doubt, will discontent a category or another that find themselves to both extreme, those having 24h/24H to play and those having 1h to play a day.
I would be careful when coming here and saying that people should all play 5h a day or be gone....those that play without rushing are probably, from commercial point of view, a steadier source of income, because THEY have always something to do even with the long breaks between new content release...might want to think to this too.
You sure you have a family, and if you have, I am sure grateful that I am not part of it.
Just me though

I wont lie.. Ive unsubscribed after 600 some odd days subscribed.. Idk game just isnt fun anymore. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and ill probably resub for 3.1 just for story but other than that.. Game just isnt fun anymore. Not sure if it is a change in me or a change in the game. idk.. Maybe if I had a savage static I would feel different but.. Cant say I dont understand how people are bored.
The kind that everyone is too afraid to say but needs to be said.
You're the one who's saying that, not me. I'm just saying that a good portion of people have the time to set aside for hours a day on a mmo, even while doing things with the family or stuff around the house. It's all about managing time better. A lot of people have the opportunity to do these things, but fail to correctly manage them in a way that they can. You can still please your family/friends while also playing for 5+ hours daily. I'm sorry if you can't multi-task, but a lot of us can. Theres a good portion who work 9pm - 5pm, who come home, make dinner, interact with family and also still get hours of gaming.
From what you said, it sure sounds like your family doesn't want you playing a mmo, or doing anything for yourself. You do realize, you're allowed to have time to yourself right? It doesn't take two parents to help with homework and definitely shouldn't all be put on a single person, when there's another there who can help out. There's such a thing as "No, not right now, I need some time to myself." instead of "Ok, let me drop everything to do your stuff." That's not a healthy/happy family. That's 2-4 people using a single person to do their stuff while they can do whatever they want.
The problem is, thats exactly what SE is doing. They're catering to people who can't manage time and expect to play a mmo (which the goal of a mmo is to be a huge timesink) like a facebook/mobile game(where you can spend 1 hour and get stuff), which is why a lot of us are bored from the lack of content and variety.
The problem is that when they do add more stuff, they throw away the stuff they just made, resulting in the same amount of content we just had, nothing new, not more content. The exact same amount. Going by this logic, why even bother adding new dungeons when they just throw out what was just out. No, 3 months does not make it "old". Old is 1 year+. Old is t1-5. By this logic and the plan they've been doing, they could just keep the same 2 dungeons and make them a little more difficult each update. That's exactly what they're doing right now by throwing out the 2 dungeons they just added and replacing them with 2 more. There's zero variety.

Let me just point out that, as far as "endgame" dungeons, 2.0 had Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep. Then a new dungeon and 2 hard mode dungeons got added. Then again. Then again. Then again. Then AGAIN. And this is completely ignoring Coil, Crystal Tower, housing, trials, additional systems/upgrades for crafting and gathering/weapons, PvP and open-world content at the player's requests, and the Gold Saucer as a whole (which in and of itself can be expanded at any time AND is slated to) added throughout the 2.x patch cycles.
First off, nothing is done at your command, and it never will be. If you don't like that, or feel that's wrong, take your money elsewhere. You know you're free to do so. Much of this is planned out and METERED. Why? Because if they gave it all at once, impatient or ungrateful players would blaze through it all at once, then turn around and complain about being bored anyway. Heavensward is 3.0. 2 expert dungeons just like 2.0; it's safe to say there's plenty more on the way. Be patient. You think they don't already have more planned? As if no foresight went into this and someone just decided "well this is enough and leave it at that"? Please. . .
Second, and this needs to be said: if your idea of enjoying endgame is "log on, cap tomes, run weeklies, log off" then you complain of nothing to do or being bored, you're doing it to yourself. That's not a lack of content, that's a personal limitation. Sure, you can do the bare minimum/most efficient things necessary to get what you want each week, but what then? You don't have any friends in-game? Know anybody that might need a hand? Ever wanted to try something different? And for the love of player skill, why not actually practice or learn more about what role/job you play, or even others? Please note: None of this you HAVE to do. Hell, not even the "log, cap, weekly, log" bit. But if you do little more than the bare minimum, you've got absolutely no grounds to complain about nothing to do.
Lastly, it's been said over and over: take a break. Play something else if you're bored. Don't want to play something else/nothing else to play? DO something else. You're bored? That's your problem. No one here is going to fix it, and devs aren't going to fix it at your behest. Therefore you're the only one who can cure that boredom, and if you're waiting on devs to do it for you, that's ridiculous. Even Yoshida himself has encouraged people to play other things if/when they get bored or tired of playing. Declaring you're "bored now" is like a child pitching a fit in a store because their parent won't get them what they want right away. Not a "no", just "not right away".
I'm "bored" of this topic, and much as I hope it just dies off, I'm going to do the mature adult thing and go do something else.
You also don't need to be at their side 24/7. That's being clingy. If it's an infant, than sure, be near them the majority of the day. But you can also have them in your lap or them playing with toys next to you so you can monitor them. Kids 10+? Theres a thing called friends. And again, you don't need to be right at their side 24/7, most kids would hate that. Kids that age or older can have friends over or go over to a friends house. Or you know what? Go outside and play with friends. They don't need you every waking hour of the day.
From the sound of a few of these posts, it sounds like parents who are too afraid to let their kid out of their sight for more than 10 seconds and won't allow them to go out and have friends >_> That right there is bad parenting if you're doing everything for them and don't let them do their own thing by themselves. They'll end up growing up not knowing how to do easy life skills because you hovered over them all their life. Not to mention it'll be difficult for them to actually make friends and go out and do things with them, because kids love to make fun of other kids who have parents who hover over them all their lives. People who do that are just setting themselves up for failure and not having enough time to do what they want. It also sets their child up to be one of those kids who lives at home until their 30+, who can't handle real life situations without you. Think of it in the way a bird pushes their young out of the nest. They can't rely on you forever and by doing things for them and not doing things for yourself, you're setting them up to be entitled, whiny kids/adults, who expect things handed to them. Do you really want more of those?

Heavensward set a great stage for 3.X, that much is certain. However, while at the end of 2.55 I had oodles of content to play and enjoy at the level cap, we have much less in 3.0 at level 60. This is my first sub based MMO, so maybe this is just the way things are meant to be, but it feels quite jarring that after the expansion and reaching the level cap, my selection of (non-raid) activities has been pared down significantly from before. Not only that, but the conventions in place to keep me grinding that list of activities are identical to those found in ARR. It makes me feel as though I'm doing busy work carried over from ARR while waiting for fresh content to come out for Heavensward.
There is other content in the game for me to play, I've started leveling alt jobs, which is tolerable. I do however feel disappointed I don't have as much content that I actively enjoy that is relevant due to in-game conventions like alternate currency or loot. I've avoided most instances that require 8 people so far, as I'd rather tackle it with my FC. As such, I've gone through much of the more casual content 3.0 has to offer. I've been playing less and less since reaching this point. I usually log on to do a roulette, but only to stay somewhat relevant while waiting for 3.1. As someone who used to log regularly for 3-5 hours a day, it's startling to find my playtime reduced to 10% of what it was before, shortly after an expansion. I have plenty of gaming options to keep me busy, but FF14 is the one I love. Like I said, it's the first sub based MMO I've played, I spent a lot of fun times in Eorzea, and I'm hoping for more to come. Best wishes for 3.1

Just going to let you know, out of 15 years of playing mmos that no, that's not the way things are meant to be. MMOs have always had oodles of content to be doing, even a variety of content so you'll never run out of things to do. They also built off existing content and kept it relevant for longer than 3 months. When expansions rolled around, they added a new variety in content, while also keeping the content out relevant, so you'd have the new content to do, while still doing the older stuff, rather than throwing away everything that came before it and giving us less than what we had before. It's pretty much just XIV and a few select others that do this and turn it into a mobile/facebook game.
