This is probably the thing that most bugs me about G'raha Tia in the Crystal Tower storyline. (Yes, I'm talking about him again, but hear me out.)

He spends the entire time talking about how amazing you are, berates himself constantly for not being able to do more, and drops to his knees in outright despair at his uselessness after leaving the World of Darkness. By sealing himself in the tower at the end, he acknowledges his own inability to affect any sort of positive change in the present, becoming, in his own words, "nothing more than a vessel for Doga and Unei's blood." To the very end, the point of his character is to tell the Warrior of Light how great they are, but he only ever does it by putting himself down. It's supposed to be meant as hopeful, him finding something only he can do, but symbolically it's also an act of suicide born of despair.

Yay for happy endings?
