It's also against logic to be a Warrior in a loincloth bikini, yet here we are, Warriors in loincloth bikinis all over the place. It doesn't make sense, but it's fun!
Weapon. And if you're in a party with them... class icon. >_>
@OP: I really hope they remove the class/job/dow/dom/doh/dol restrictions on glamouring. This would open so many more options. Currently FFXIV has one of the least friendly wardrobe systems in any MMO.
So my character magically forgets how to put on plate boots when they're carrying a staff? Or forgets how to wear a robe when they pick up an axe?
There is nothing resembling logic and common sense in that...
XI lets you glamour any gear you like, with the rule that you've already leveled that job and are able to wear the gear. So for an example, lets say I have WHM, BLM and NIN leveled up to various points - I am able to mix and match any gear that those jobs are able to wear, at their respective levels, to make my own awesome design.
I think it's a smart way to handle glamours. As others have mentioned, we already see people fighting naked and in bikinis, this won't push the boundaries of realism any farther away.
Rift and WildStar, for two. Both of those even removed level restrictions. They also function as you unlock an appearance in a UI, and that "appearance bank" is shared with all your characters, so you can unlock a look on one character but use it in wardrobe on another character.
Far superior to FFXIV's. But at the very least FFXIV could remove the class/etc restriction...
XI does just that >_> Got the gear? Got the job a high enough lvl to use said gear? You can use said gear for glamour on any job. Example being, you can have a 99 pld with reforged AF and lockstyle(glamour) that set onto a lvl 30 rdm.
It's also free too, which is nice. Instead of having to drop 9k+ (sometimes 30k because for some reason we can't buy in singles yet...) just to glamour 1 piece.
Holy crap, having never played XI, I just assumed it was more of the same as FFXIV in this regard. But now that I know they had a better system in their old game than they do in their new one... wtf were you thinking, SE? XD
This.
Have a restriction on AF gear, but all other gear should be up for grabs for glamour. There is literally no valid argument against that. Between weapon and the job icons, there's no problem identifying jobs.
LOTRO originally had restrictions similar to what we have here, but after a while they dropped all those restrictions (class, level, reputation, etc) and let anyone cosmetically wear any gear they want.
That part is awesome as well, but I didn't mention it as I don't see XIV ever going that routeIn my opinion, glamours should be fun and something you can be spontaneous with. Why not give your players a (free) fluff perk in the game? Not everything has to cost gil.
The current XIV system is far too convoluted for its own good. If they're going to insist on keeping the prisms, why on earth do we have to have 5 different levels? Since each prism level takes the exact same crafting material, and the base cost of the prism is identical (or incredibly close), they may as well just have 1 prism for each crafting class.
Theres actually quite a lot of good systems they did in XI, that somehow they managed to either screw up or did them backwards in XIV lol Like how XI has a variety of interesting content that feels different from the rest and keeps you playing everyday, all day and every single month, while in XIV, we just get 2 dungeons and 4 bosses that get outdated and thrown away the next update, causing people to take breaks for months and really makes it feel more like a mobile/facebook game than a mmo :/ Sort of feels like SE really put a lot of love and effort into XI, while in XIV, didn't care much and only cared about money, rather than the thing they've created (old event items in XI are buyable with gil from a npc. Each year. Every year. XIV? $$$$). That's one of the big things a lot of companies who make mmos forget these days. They don't look at their mmo as their child anymore, they just see it as a cash cow
It actually makes you wonder if it's even the same company who did both
