I agree, the only glamour restriction I would accept is on AF gear.

This.
Have a restriction on AF gear, but all other gear should be up for grabs for glamour. There is literally no valid argument against that. Between weapon and the job icons, there's no problem identifying jobs.
Weapon display can be turned off and the other player have to be in the party to see his class icon.
Instead of allowing to glamour gear that you can't wear, SE should just bring back "favored classes" status on gear. Everyone can wear it (if it is not class/job specific like AF gear), but only the favored classes can use it to 100% (get all the stats)
What need is there to know someone's class outside of a party situation, though? I've been racking my brain and I can't think of a single reason why you would need to know that.
Then you didn't think very hard.
AF gear sure, it doesn't make sense to let another job glamour it. But the Kirumu Coat or Wolfram Cuirass, for example, have zero special reason why they couldn't be glamoured to other jobs.
Please tell me why I can have two palette-swapped versions of the exact same shirt (Divine Light and Divine Hero) and yet only be allowed to glamour one of them. Does my character magically lose the ability to button up the red shirt when she is a different job? It's exactly the same as the white one-- literally the only difference between those two pieces of gear is the color. There is zero logical reason not to allow BRDs and NINs to glamour both shirts.
I think you're confusing "sense" with arbitrary reasoning.
This counterpoints the above quite nicely. There is no sensible reason why, it simply is, because videogames. Please tell me why I can have two palette-swapped versions of the exact same shirt (Divine Light and Divine Hero) and yet only be allowed to glamour one of them.
