That was part of it, yes. However, for XIV itself, we helped keep that division running. For that ALONE, we deserved the legacy stuff. Then it came out later that the failure of XIV was weighing heavily on SE. Thankfully 13 along with the 1.0 supporters helped keep SE afloat long enough to release ARR.

The only thing you paid for was a cheaper lifetime subscription and your name in credits most people skip(and to support a game you had high hopes for). Anything else anyone who played 1.0 could have gotten without paying a dime. Even if you played 1.0 and you decided to make a new character you don't get to keep the tattoo. "Legacy tattoo" is just a name. It has nothing to do with Legacy status.

You left out the Legacy chocobo, which is tied to legacy membership along with the subscription and the option to put your name in the credits. But you're correct about the tattoo only requiring that the character existed before 2.0.

Sort of interesting, given that the opening cutscene implies that characters sent forward in time (who would have that tattoo) also had a chocobo with that same mark on their beak, while that isn't actually the case in the game itself. (Non legacy members on their 1.0 characters not having the legacy chocobo/chocobo with the tattoo on its beak)

Not to demean it or anything but it's hard to count a chocobo you can't even use as a companion ,dye, or even race, as a big special reward. =/
My point is mainly that, this isn't something special that anyone paid for. You just kinda got it for being there. It's silly to act like it was a reward from the legacy campaign when it wasn't, I always thought the name would be confusing down the line.

Even the poster above me seems to think it was something that was earned through paying for the legacy campaign.

Well I was just speaking out of technicality more than anything. Granted, I'd say the chocobo is worth a little more than the name in the credits, since you can't go running around with the latter in front of everyone like you can with the former. X)

You're right though, people tend to get the Legacy Campaign rewards mixed up with some of the other one-time only items. The original Goobbue mount is the same way; it's entirely possible for there to be some Legacy Campaign members who don't have the original Goobbue mount, while many non-Legacy Campaign members do, and like the tattoo, a new character won't have it.

To be honest though, the tattoo was technically paid for; unless your copy of the game was a gift, you had to at least buy a copy of the game itself. Only the subscription itself was made free until 2012. If nothing else, the tattoo was the all-inclusive badge of thanks/apology to anyone who'd ever gotten as far as to buy the game and create a character on Final Fantasy XIV prior to its relaunch.

(whoopsie-doodle, quoted the wrong person, edited to correct!)
