I'd like someone to explain just why it's ok for SE to charge us for things already in the game, rather then simply place an NPC next to the current seasonal NPC.

1- The items are already in the game, for the most part.
2- SE "turns on, turns off" seasonal events with nary a hiccup each year. Seriously, is there even an hour long downtime to start these?
3- SE place the "Goodly Adventurer" in Idyllshire, among others, so quickly after launch that making an "Old Seasonal NPC" that sells things wouldn't take either effort or time.
4- SE makes a lot of profits off our subscription fees.
5- We have no gurrantee's that the money the cash shop generates goes back into the game; for all we know it could be going to the CEO's pocket.

Knowing all this, why do you, yes you reading this, defend this? Don't give me the "it's just business" response either. Seriously wondering why someone would support renting items for a fee that could very easily, and garner universal praise for the devs, if they were simply available in-game.

I just don't get why people defend being nickled and dimed. /shrug

Because I'm not the one being nickeled and dimed. The person who decided to skip out on a subscription, or skip out on the event that month is being hit.

My opinion on the matter is that these items should cease to be available to aquire in their entirety. Once the event is done, it's done. You've missed out. I want people invested into actually attending this game and participating into it. And I'm ok with players being punished for not playing if they don't. What you would propose is rewarding those who do not. - Which I don't agree with. It enables those who don't play the game to get the rewards of the game with little to no effort.

I see the cash shop as a compromise - you get the item that should have expired, in my eyes, but you pay back a little of the subscription you skipped and/or for the content you did not participate in as recompense.

I want you here, playing the game. If you do, it's free, and there's no problem, whatsoever. But if you skip out, you should miss out. If you want to not to miss out after skipping out, then you should pay out.

IMO that's a fair compromise that benefits SE.

That may sound a bit cruel, but short of that it kinda punishes us players who've stuck around the game to see people just pick it up next year without any consequence or first hand understanding of the event they missed out on.

It can all be avoided by simply being here and participating - and the events are not hard in any way.

    Well you're a year late.

And there is still a chance that the 1.0 yukatas will be in the event itself seeing as they aren't in the mogstation.

If I wasn't paying for a sub when an event was originally released, I think it's perfectly fair to pay a small amount to be able to get the things from that event.

Otherwise it's like going to a RL event that gives out free t-shirts to the people who pay to attend the event and saying that you should get a shirt from the last event for free even though you didn't actually go to it. Giving you the chance to purchase one if you want it is a reasonable compromise.

    Thank you for this sentiment.

There comes a time where it feels like customer cross the line between people who work to provide a service, and a second-class citizen servant. And honestly, this error happens on both sides of the service provider, both their customers, and their bosses.

I realize it's hard sometimes to imagine things from outside a customer viewpoint but it really does wonders for the experience all around to be mindful that there are human beings involved in all points in this.

If this game was f2p those yukata's would be $10 or $15, not $3. Not even other P2P or B2P cash shops are this cheap.

I want to know where the pants and feet that go along with the Yukata went. :/

None of this is news, they have been doing this for an entire year, so I don't know what the fuss is about.

Especially since event items were never really "free" to begin with. You had to be subbed during the specific time period of the event to be able to obtain them.

As it is, you have two options for getting event items:

    1) Pay for a sub during the event and do the in-game quests to get the items/purchase them with gil.

    2) Skip the sub and just pay for the items on their own later.

Now, if you're subbed during the event but don't bother to grab the items, that's all on you, not SE, since event quests take around an hour to an hour and a half tops. If you can't even put in that much time over the course of a few weeks for something you want and that you know will only be available for a limited time, well... too bad.
