Why further enhancements to market wards?

So with the most recent letter from the producer, came anouncement of further improvements to the market wards. I still do not understand why it is necessary to improve a failing system and a system that ( according to industry standards ) noon wants. Why not take that manpower and create an AH system that is linked between all the cities so that we can finally scrap the market ward system. I understand that some players have grown accustomed to the wards and have learned to go about day to day business as usual with that in place. However, if this game ever plans to release on PS3 and plans to increase its numbers, market wards are only going to continue to be an issue due to the rapid increase in population. I also read the entire list and saw that there was no mention of a Mailbox or Mog House anywhere on the list. I am truly enjoying the recent and upcomming changes to the game, but still am not seeing any of the "big things" that made up the great FFXI infrastructure, comming to life in FFXIV. I know battle systems and armory systems take priority, but I wish that the dev's would announce plans for Mog House, Mailbox, and AH for the future. Alot of players have given up asking for these things, but I have played many MMO's and I do not ever see FFXIV growing to any form of population that can bring in decent revenue without them.

This is the current process of purchasing and equipping an entire set of gear using the FFXIV Market Ward system

Walk up to Wards
Select Item Search Counter
Select desired ward
Select desired catergory
Find Item
Select Item
Hit "Yes" button at bottom to track item
Select Market Wards
Select desired ward
Wait for loading screen
Run to desired retainer and select
Purchase desired item from retainer
Run back to the Market Ward window

Rinse and repeat about 5-10 times until you have a complete set of gear

If you can put some stuff in bold, make a tl'dr or add some enters ill read your post and give you a reply to that. :P

Everything should be done in UI. The visual representation sucks. I don't want to move my character and shop around it is completely unnecessary. Make areas in town, or instanced areas where it can be the bazaar ward, where people can stand and sell items / high ticket items.

Leave listings to a UI setup like FFXI.

My guess is they're adding minor easy to add improvements to MW until it's time for them to overhaul the whole thing. I'm hoping.

If I know exactly what I am looking for, it takes me no more than a minute to do that whole process. So for 5-10 items it would take me 5-10 minutes. That is not long at all... in FFXI I would stand around at the AH for like 30 minutes trying to find items then play the "Oh how much did the person jack up or down this items price" and play the guessing game. Sometimes I would impute prices multiple times before getting it for how much it was. With the Wards we can see EXACTLY how much it is, EXACTLY what ward the best price is, and go STRAIGHT to it.

Yeah... that's so much worse than playing the AH guessing game. /sarcasm

I'm for the AH or the Wards, neither bother me as long as I have a place to buy and sell items. But in my option, and I know people won't agree with me, I do not see an issue with the Wards... especially with the improvements that have been made.

to the OP: because the market wards work, they just need some tweaks to make them easier/faster to use. I've been saying this since day 1, we don't NEED an AH.

People keep on talking about WE. What is this WE, ME, I, WE dont matter. WE dont make a successfull game. The hundreds of thousands of people that left ffxiv when it came out for all of its amazing problems and complete lack of a basic infrastructure that every other MMO seems to have working perfectly, within reason, at launch. I will agree with you Molly, WE dont need an auction house, I have grown accustomed to the MW. With a few fixes, I would still play this game, even with a crappy, or halfway decent MW system. But if this was another MMO I was going to for the first time, any other MMO, besides FFXIV, I would not play it for even 5 minutes after finding out that they dont have a basic Mailbox and AH system, and it is also unforgiving that a final fantasy MMO is lacking a Mog House when almost a year has elapsed since it's release. All of the suggestions I ever make in this forum have always been and will always be aimed at generating new players, new blood. I dont care about myself because I know where I fall in the grand scheme of things. I really wish everyone else would too.

Again, this post is not about what you, or I, or what any one of us likes. We dont have the millions of dollars that it will take to keep SE from crumbling. Something absolutely huge needs to take place in this game in order to bring in massive amounts of new blood. Without new players to play this game, the game will not charge a subscription, if they dont charge a subscription, then this game will be dead in a year.

Actually this IS about what you and I and what other people like, everything you are saying (as you you stated yourself) won't matter if they don't have the players. This forum was made so SE could see what the players were saying, what we wanted, what we didn't want etc... so this whole forum is about what you, or I or everyone likes and wants. If it doesn't matter then why did you even post this?


Oh and Mog Houses have already been mentioned as something they are working on for the future.

In the one minute it took you to find and purchase that item, I used an AH in another game to purchase a full set of gear and list my old stuff.

The thing is, market wards have zero advantages over an AH. They do nothing of value that an AH does not do better. Nothing.
They don't list a price history. They require you to run around to buy or sell anything. They essentially tax random items because it's quite unlikely everything you want to sell will be in the same category. They force you to sit through a loading screen and wait for a bunch of NPCs to load for each item you want to buy. They are enough of a bother to use that they are detrimental to the economy, the availability of equipment, and the enjoyment of the game.

They are inferior in every possible way.

What's all this about mail and mog house? who said anything about those? I said we (as players) don't need an AH. The wards are quick and easy to find items in now, they could be better with a few tweaks, but they are not even close to as bad as some people make them sound.
