Why further enhancements to market wards?

So with the most recent letter from the producer, came anouncement of further improvements to the market wards. I still do not understand why it is necessary to improve a failing system and a system that ( according to industry standards ) noon wants. Why not take that manpower and create an AH system that is linked between all the cities so that we can finally scrap the market ward system. I understand that some players have grown accustomed to the wards and have learned to go about day to day business as usual with that in place. However, if this game ever plans to release on PS3 and plans to increase its numbers, market wards are only going to continue to be an issue due to the rapid increase in population. I also read the entire list and saw that there was no mention of a Mailbox or Mog House anywhere on the list. I am truly enjoying the recent and upcomming changes to the game, but still am not seeing any of the "big things" that made up the great FFXI infrastructure, comming to life in FFXIV. I know battle systems and armory systems take priority, but I wish that the dev's would announce plans for Mog House, Mailbox, and AH for the future. Alot of players have given up asking for these things, but I have played many MMO's and I do not ever see FFXIV growing to any form of population that can bring in decent revenue without them.

This is the current process of purchasing and equipping an entire set of gear using the FFXIV Market Ward system

    Walk up to Wards
    Select Item Search Counter
    Select desired ward
    Select desired catergory
    Find Item
    Select Item
Hit "Yes" button at bottom to track item
    Select Market Wards
    Select desired ward
    Wait for loading screen
Run to desired retainer and select
    Purchase desired item from retainer
Run back to the Market Ward window

Rinse and repeat about 5-10 times until you have a complete set of gear

Because nobody want an AH. They want a Broker house, which the market ward is in some way.

When the 600 thousand + people that purchased this game and left, complained, one of the biggest complaints that has still gone un addressed was the lack of an Auction House and Mailbox. When this game was reviewed, one of the points brought up was the lack of an Auction House and Mailbox system. Every single MMO out right now that has any form of competitive market share for MMO's has a very strong AH and Mailbox system.

When you say noone wants an AH, guess again

sorry but that is a bit wrong, most of the complains about not having an auction house was because at the time, MW did not have a search feature at all, now that it has been tweaked and adjusted, a lot of the "no AH" complains are gone.

I quit myself untill the MW search was added, and I will be playing again full time when 1.19 comes out

It doesn't have to be XI's AH. Just the current system but being able to purchase items directly from the item search counter.

It's the "physical" market thing that is stupid and inconvenient.

And sell items through the same menu. And view price history through the same menu. And not be taxed because your six items don't fit in two categories. And charge tax on listing rather than on sale so the system doesn't get clogged up with people using it as storage or charging ridiculous prices(your level 6 weapon is not worth 80k, sorry).

I loved FFXI's AH because it didn't show the list price, which prevented the undercutting war that every other AH I've seen ends up going into.
Also, complaining about FFXI's AH because of 'overpaying' is like complaining about shopping anywhere that doesn't hand out coupons for everything. If you're not paying more than the average then you're not overpaying. You're just not getting it for less than it's worth. :/

Hmm, actually I am for empowering the buyers as it is now. IMO giving sellers the ability to artificially manipulate the market as it was in XI sucks.

I see how some people's interests lie on the other side though...

Ya I totally know what you are saying because I felt that way for a bit too. That will happen sometimes, but I really did not see it happening enough to make a difference to me. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives in reguards to changing the market system of ffxiv.... imo

AH would at least get some people who have left give this game another chance. Nobody is going to return when they know that the MW system that they hated has been slightly tweaked. Also no amount of fixing the MW will ever make them as handy as XI's AH.

Seems like SE's priorities are still all over the place with bikinis and leve tweaks when the real big issues that they have known since the first player poll are yet to be addressed.

I agree with the OP that even telling about plans for these basic features to be added would give a lot of players more faith in this game's future.

I saw a very old article on IGN today "what MMO should you play" and even though the content is ages old I think this one quote sums up XIV's development and public perception of SE's actions really well:

Version/latest additions: Final Fantasy XIV was released with a load of bugs, so most of the recent and future patches are simply going to address those. Most of the patch notes still address minor bugs while major issues (such as the broken Bazaar system) remain problematic.

News flash: I think the people that have left wont come back for Auction House. They got feelings hurt like most of us felt let down. The only difference is that some of us decided to stay and just wait until it got better. Its kinda like the person that is in a bad relationship. When they finally get out they adopt the attitude of all men are dogs or all women are gold diggers mentality. Instead of focusing on the truth which is that just the person they were in a relationship with were a dog and or gold digger. Basically they may never come back, however, once word gets out that this game is off and running like a charm(after 1.21 or so) then the game will attract new players that dont have the bad taste still in their mouths.
