Always always... ALWAYS
Do a clean install if it's an option. Not just for this game because that shouldn't matter too much. Do it because it increases performance. Do it to phase out old unused programs, spyware, adware or viruses you may not be aware of.
Hell, do it to clean the registry up if nothing else.
Upgrades are for dummies, the computer illiterates.
....D-Do you mind telling me how to do a clean install? >_>. I already upgraded to w10 but I didn't know this was an option.
Not everyone updates their OS to the newest thing, Windows 7 will remain supported until 2020 but by that point most people would just be replacing entire computer not just the OS.
1. Did you upgrade after the release of Windows 10?
Upgraded last night.
2. Did the game start with zero issues?
Once I got my driver issues figured out, no issues.
3. Running DX11 version of the game just fine?
Seems so.
4. Noticeable changes? (Game wise)
Only spent 2 minutes in game to test before going to bed, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary (all my settings were still there, so didn't have to change anything).
5. Personal experience you would like to share about it? (Windows 10 / FFXIV with W10)
After the upgrade my second monitor wasn't working, and I noticed the computer wasn't recognizing my GPU (NVidia GTX 960). I had the latest driver installed before the upgrade, but that alone didn't seem to do it. Downloaded the driver installer, and had it do a clean install to get rid of the extra fluff. It never actually got to re-installing the driver because cleaning out the fluff and the mandatory reboot seemed to fix my issue.
6. Clean Install?
No.
Been playing since insider, no problems at all and no significant performance increase
DX11 290x
Maybe because it uses gameworks and gimps AMD cards
I'm still trying to decide if I want to just upgrade or do a clean install. There are some programs I have that I'm not sure I'd be able to get back if I do a clean install, as I can't find the dang product keys. >_<
Although you see many complaints in this thread, overall I believe the upgrade is relatively smooth for most.
I have upgraded, in-place, 2 PCs. A part from minor issues starting the second one on the laptop, in which I forced the upgrade (turned out the installer is particular about your "locale"; setting it to English:United States fixes it), it has been smooth sailing.
Just do the upgrade. If you are unhappy with it, it's not too late to do a clean install. (Also defrag after the upgrade as no doubt it overwrites tons of files. So unless you are on an SSD, hard drive performance will suffer.)
Honestly, I just did the upgrade straight up and everything's working fine. I just ran CCleaner afterwards and personally did a disk cleanup to get rid of windows 7 as I have no intention of going back to it (you can if you wish to though). That being said, my PC is a gaming machine and that's it. There's basically steam, XIV and a browser on here with a ton of games.
Upgraded to 10, loving it. Everything works just fine, haven't noticed any real improvements w/Dx11 Max, but the game ran great with 8 as well, so..
