    Windows 10 [Did you upgrade?]

Hello! I was thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 today instead of waiting to see what SE had to say about it. Which won't be till mid-Aug. So here are a few questions:

    1. Did you upgrade after the release of Windows 10? (Jul 29th)

    2. Did the game start with zero issues?

    3. Running DX11 version of the game just fine?

    4. Noticeable changes? (Game wise)

    5. Personal experience you would like to share about it? (Windows 10 / FFXIV with W10)

Edit: 6. Did you follow up with a clean install after the upgrade?

    Thank you for your time!

A lot of people, including myself, have been having troubles installing it, like it gets stuck at random points and doesn't progress.

That's the only input i can give you at this time.

    1. I did.
    2. Yes, zero issues.
    3. Yes, DX11, didn't try DX9 at all.
    4. It feels a bit smoother.
    5. I absolutely adore Win10, it's pretty, it's fast, it has a really nice Start menu, etc. As for FFXIV it all runs, and it runs smooth, so no complaints.

Tried to, it's a comedy of error, so bad, I am regretting leaving console gaming for this...

First my laptop can't download a Windows Update, when it does finally do it, it corrupts my registry so bad I have to system restore it. So I will have to try to manually install windows 10 as I can't get the Get windows 10 app without that update.

Now my desktop... My windows 8.1 was told to be a counterfeit despite it being activated with Microsoft and all before yesterday morning. When it did the Win 10 update, it made it invalid with an expiry date. I am seriously not liking getting back into PCs after 3 years away from them.

Yeaaaah I'm kind of wondering how Microsoft is going to like my license for Windows 8.1, since I got 8.0 for free from school and have no idea what my codes were at the time.

Right now I'm still getting the "we'll let you know when it's available!" message.

My 8.1 is an academic licence from MSDNAA as well, and had no problems with that. It didn't ask me for a code or anything when using the upgrade program.

Also you can force the upgrade, just google "force windows 10 upgrade"

    1) No I upgraded to the 10 Insider Preview months ago.
    2) Yes, there's been no issues with XIV.
    3) DX11 has worked flawlessly.
    4) None particularly.
    5) It's overall a smoother cleaner experience, boots up extremely fast compared to fresh installations of 8 and 7. Has plenty of power options and user friendly management. It can take a slight adjustment if you're one of those strange ones that avoided 8 and are coming right from 7, but it's not as jarring as 8 would have been that likely kept you away.

    6) Nah, I've been getting massive OS upgrades for months due to having the insider access. I was basically a beta tester the entire time. I couldn't be bothered since it was just another slight update I had to restart for yesterday.

    I'm on a poorly ventilated Alienware X51 R2.

The upgrade went fine for me. A part from it resetting my audio settings, and Alien Audio not working because DELL not updating their crap, nothing going straight to the Realtek Audio driver config didn't fix - I turned off all the "audio effects"; never liked that rubbish.

Other than having to do long defrags due to the upgrade rearranging a ton of files - I'm a neat freak like that. It has been smooth sailing.

FFXIV (DX11) runs fine. No problems here. Frame rates are a tiny bit better although that might just be the placebo effect.

From my point of view, it's pretty much Win 8.2 - a more polished Win 8.1. Don't really see any huge performance gains.

    1. Right at the release time

    2. No issues

    3. Runs great, still the same 70-90FPS

    4. None

    5. Horrible, OS is slow and chunky. Takes 1.30-2 mins to boot to the login, where 8.1 would take 10 seconds to land me on the login screen, everything has delays, opening start menu takes 2-3 secs, every app takes 2-3 secs to start, even the calculator. 8.1 was everything instant 99% of the time. Reverting back to 8.1 today.

    6. Did a clean install from the start, nothing saved, format etc etc.

And i know its not my system. 8.1 ran perfectly flawless. If anything it feels like a downgrade to 7 again, with XP boot times.

    For future reference: i7-4790@4.0Ghz; 8GB 1600MHz; GTX960; 2x500GB 7200RPM HDD
