the mmorpg as we know it, is on the decline, why this? because since WoW the genre didn't evolve really, we did get a few feature and such, but no real evolution.

some talk of the sandbox, but this type too of mmorpg is wrong, people want to enjoy the game, indeed some like to build or create a society but most player simply want to enjoy adventure and such.
we have a good example of themepark mmorpg with FF14, but actually it's the perfect example of why the mmorpg is declining. the genre need to evolve and become what it was means to become.... a game that allows to explore a world! be connected to that world and such.

the theme park type as we know it is a perfect example of how it didn't evolve. soo far FF14 have one main activity, raiding.... it's like a theme park that only have one rollercoaster! is dumb. indeed people will say me, that we have other activity, like goldensaucer that are not different of the stand and the story quest, that not different than a parade or a show.... but we need more content, more varied content... you have tons of different type of attraction into the themepark, soo far FF14, like every theme park mmorpg, do this error, he do offer only one main activity, if you don't do it, you have no real reason to play it.

the genre is dying because they are scared to offer more.... hunt was a possibility, it had the potential to become one new activity, until they deliver us a joke... a zergfest not working as intended. people love to speed run content, why not offer a time attack mode? why not offer activity that change and make us feel part of the world! soo far when we do finish the story quest... i feel disconnected of the world. i don't have any reason to play outside do my caps. that the trouble they need to solve if they want to offer a second life to the genre....
