If anyone expects comm just cuz they are healing then I would never give them my comm. (Theoretically speaking since I'm always playing healer myself) our job is to just make sure the group stay alive, that doesn't deserve more comm than making sure you're soaking damage or being the one making sure stuff dies.
Just be happy for the ones you can get. A good personality or a showing extraordinary performance can help you gain them.

You didn't read the OP (or even the thread title), did you? The entire thread is discussing people who did more than just heal. They tried to go above and beyond by both keeping people alive as well as dpsing and doing other things to get the most out of the class, yet received no comms.

I did. Still don't think that anyone should expect to get comms. As ppl said already everyone have different criteria for giving out comms. If you know yourself you did a great job, pat yourself on the shoulder and feel good about yourself cuz you did a good job and deserve to feel good. If ppl didn't recognise it then meh, doesn't change the fact that you did a great job. I once had to save a party all on my own and received no comm. Not a big deal really.

I think in general the idea of dpsing while healing for some reason seems to be and extremely polarizing issue for the community. I actually think a lot of pro-dpsers might give the commendation just for seeing you in cleric stance, and for the anti-dpser crowd seeing cleric stance automatically means their commendation is going somewhere else. In both cases, the commendation isn't really a measure of how well you played.

I was on a roulette and ended up with a random DPS from my own server. His performance was meh, didnt get out of AoE and pulled before the tank. The healer and tank basically saved his bacon multiple times. I ended up giving a comm to one of them. After we were out, the lackluster DPS sends me a tell (thats when I realized he was on my server), "Bro, why didnt I get a comm??? I nuked that shit!!! I need my achive!" (mostly word for word). I ignored him.

Moral of the story, comms go out for more than just one thing (ie good dps). If you act like an idiot (pull before the tank, don't get out of AoE, etc), or don't put any effort into social interaction (does saying Hi hurt you that much?), then don't expect anything. Even if you are king of the mountain on DPS or heals. That's just playing your class as it was designed. And yes, healing classes were designed to DPS as well when they have the opportunity, people just choose not to because they don't know how to play.

This too. Choosing to cleric or not can be a bit tricky-- some groups actually don't like to see you do it.

That said, as posted before, in my experience the #1 thing that determines if you get comms is... basically, how social you are.

I pugged a Titan Extreme in 2.5, never said a word. Only people alive were Tank, 2 of the Healers, BLM, and myself as a BRD since 70% of the fight. The other tank and 2 DPS got knocked off. We finished the fight, and I got 5 comms. I never said anything, never died, I didn't even play ballad cause healers were fine on MP. 5 comms...

I never expect comms as a DPS class, so this comes to show you that people give comms for any reason. I gave mine to the tank for solo tanking it.

I don't get any Comm's for Alexander as an AST lol, I barely get comm's as an PLD.
Big deal. I comm people for paying attention and/or being a cute little good Lala lol.
Not every tank/healer needs to get comm's. DPS do have to focus on mechanic's and stuff.

I will give a comm to a healer who actually heals me, however that rarely happens, even if I've gone out of my way to save their butts from add aggro [since the OT/s are playing aggroball with the boss] and that's the reason my hp is almost gone.
Mostly I give comms to people who are helpful with pointers, friendly, or exceptional performers.

It's definitely got more to do with your behaviour than your performance.
Pretty much suspect this is right.

First I'm not really fully qualified to speak here because I just re-activated my account and I've been away for a very long time - since before this system was in the game.

But from my perceptions in this and many other MMOs... the people that behave as if they are saving the whole group from their own mistakes... usually aren't. And they are usually carrying a bad attitude. They've often been the ones that even end up on my ignore list... even when they were right.

The last thing I would EVER DO is give a commendation to a great player who had a bad attitude. I always pick my favorites and my friends based on attitude. Back in the day (BC era) I ran a 300 member guild in WoW based on the philosophy. We sucked, we didn't progress far. But we had a lot more fun than the people we'd often chat with who "couldn't join us" because we sucked too much for their progression needs.

An MMO is my hobby, not my job. I'd rather have fun than actually succeed. Of course I don't mind success - but its not my actual goal.

And so if somebody is walking around in a group I'm in and carrying on about how much they are saving me from my stupidity... yeah they are NOT getting my commendation.
