Relic weapons came in 5 stages. The first stage dropped freely in Dynamis (Instanced Conent). Each weapon had a base damage of 1 and a delay of 999 (worst weapons in the game), but got better with each upgrade. Within Dynamis you also obtained certain forms of currency, one type for each City State (there were 3). These also dropped freely in forms of single piece or 100s (worth 100 singles). The amount you obtained per run varied between Dynamis Zones, anywhere from about 300~ up to (if you were very lucky) about 1000, this is not including dreamworld Dynamis for those of you who wish to correct me lol.

The weapons themselves were rare/ex but the currency could be sold through bazaar or traded.

Here's the quest I had to complete for my Mandau (Relic Dagger):

    The first upgrade will require:

    Cantarella x1 (Ordinary synthesis material)
Orichalcum Ingot x1 (Semi-Expensive synthesis material)
    Deodorizer x1 (Medicine)
Relic Dagger x1 (First stage dagger)

Fee: One Hundred Byne Bill x4 (Cheapest form of currency @ ~7,000g each single, totaling 400 single pieces)

Trade the four items and payment in Byne Bills to Switchstix and he will upgrade it to a Malefic Dagger. You will need to wait till after Japanese midnight.

    The second upgrade will require:

    Brass Dagger x1 (Normal dagger)
    Poison Dagger x1 (Normal dagger)
    Misericorde x1 (Normal dagger)
Malefic Dagger x1 (2nd Stage relic dagger)

Fee: Montiont Silverpiece x14 (Most expensive form of currency @ ~14,000g each single, totaling 1400 single pieces)

Trade the four daggers to Switchstix. He will upgrade the Malefic Dagger to the Dynamis Dagger. This will take about 1 week Earth time.

The third upgrade will require: (This is where it starts to get very expensive)

Attestation of Celerity x1 (Dropped from an NM within Dynamis, took me 8 tries to get mine and can only re-enter every 72 hours)
Dynamis Dagger x1 (3rd Stage relic dagger)

Fee: Lungo-Nango Jadeshell x61 (Mid priced currency @ ~11,000g each single, totaling 61000 single pieces)

The Attestation drops from the notorious monster Quiebitiel in Dynamis - Beaucedine. Trade attestation to Switchstix and he will upgrade your Dynamis Dagger to the Batardeau. The Batardeau will allow you to use the special weapon skill Mercy Stroke, but only in Dynamis areas.

    The fourth upgrade will require:

Ornate Fragment x1 (Dropped from another NM within Dynamis, but 100% drop iirc)
Necropsyche x1 (Dropped from a certain type of mob in Dynamis, easy enough to get)
Batardeau x1 (4th stage relic dagger)

Fee: Ten Thousand Byne Bill x1 (Cheapest form of currency again @ ~7,000g each single, this time totaling 100,000 single pieces)

The Ornate Fragment is obtained from the Animated Dagger in Dynamis - Xarcabard.

Trade the Batardeau, the fragment, the Necropsyche, and the currency to the blank space at (L-10) in Sanctuary of Zi'Tah to receive a cutscene, your Mandau and 30 One Hundred Byne Bills.

The amount of currency you have to trade in for each weapon is always the same for each stage. However, different weapons used different forms of currency for each stage. Overall, I spent about 140M to complete my dagger, it took me about 8 months iirc. Most of my time in game was spent farming to fund it. The Mandau was also the cheapest of all. Relic Shield and Relic Bow costed upwards of 220M.

For many players these took years to complete, but they were true goals that kept people logging in every day, something FFXIV severely needs. I would love to see these make a return in a similar fashion.

*Just for comparison, 10k gil in FFXIV is about equal to 1k gil in FFXI, IMO

I have to say that while I definitely think those who put the time into getting the great stuff should be appropriately rewarded, I find it laughable that one's enjoyability of the item should derive almost exclusively from its rarity (see: somebody saying "if more than some small percent of people have it, I feel like it's worthless"). I'd rather base my enjoyment of the game on the entertainment it provides me in an absolute sense, rather than the relative entertainment I get above other users...

Everyone plays for different reasons, and you should respect that. I personally enjoy the gear grind, but if I didn't have friends in game I wouldn't play at all.

Wow, either i totally misread the OP or people take thigns way to litterally

I read it as a complaint/regret that thus far there is nothing to work towards in ffxiv ( LIKE a relic weapon), there is no status gear, status accomplishment/title; there's just grind jobs, accumulate gill, and socialize. I agree, ffxiv should have something to reward effort and dedication of the hard core players. Lets face it, we can't afford to have people drop for other games due to boredom, we need all the players we can get

It would be nice if relics were orange or dungeon gear was blue something to indicate to the new player the quality of item he/she was looking at. Then they would know what to strive for in this game. Bottom line, I hate how all the gear has a white name. lol, guess i'm just picky.

p.s. thanks for all the answers on what those weapons were.
You were the guy asking about what the Kclub/Ridill/Relic are? I was going to say, if you played WoW the closest comparasin I could give you would be Legendary weapons, like the Warglaives of Azzinoth. I forget the names of the other ones. The game isn't impossible to beat w/o them, giving them a certain novelty if you're able to go out of your way to acquire them.

Please make it so only those who have skill and dedicated time(w/w the amount) to obtain it.
Would it be alright if my 1hr Solo-Quest Relic Weapon is terribly underpowered but it still looks exactly like yours?

I can't be the only one that thought everything associated with Dynamis was just terribly designed. I'm all for super special weapons or gear but for the love of god I hope it doesn't require 40-60 people to devote 4 hours 2x a week of the most boring slog only work on one person's weapon at a time. I think the mythic weapon quests were somewhat better, dealing with clearing pretty much all the Aht Urgahn content and then some, although unfortunately at the end that became grinding/buying up Alexandrite too. IMO the barrier for entry should be the difficulty and time investment, not money or if you don't have a gigantic LS.

You didn't have to grind Dynamis at all to finish a relic weapon, minus getting Xarcabard access and getting there r/ex items. I did what I loved best, farming with my brother and friends. I had a ton of fun on my quest to finish it.

Though I'd agree that Mythic weapon quests were a bit more engaging, but only slightly. There was still a ton of grinding involved.

OP made no sense, why are you talking about obtianing items in FF14 that are not in FF14 but are in FF11. Wrong game mate.
