I will try to explain this as best as I can. All of this is Subjective, just like this post.

The developers have stated at one point bards are a mobile dps class, when asked are they support dps. Now the developers are saying they are a support dps.

Bards take a dps slot, and I don't mind the support role of the class. I however, question if the tools we have add good support game play. A lot of players were hoping for new support songs, and keeping the core of the class the same. When we only got one supportish skill. (and from our testing, it seems like it does not work on many of the mobs.) and a caster stance.
This lacks all common sense from a game design stand point in my eyes. For one, It changes the play style of a class that people enjoy. Two, Instead of adding new songs, and making bards have more options adding skill needed to manage mp. We got this.

Blame the community.
I'll tell you what happened and I got pissed on but is literally what happened.

People fussed and pitched a fit and most of the time, didn't even sing.
SE tried to make a hybrid and it's cool but then again...they could of made
Bard a healer.
Ranger a physical DPS.
So the community asked to be more DPS oriented.
It's not SE's fault, it's the communities.
Peopled asked for this, we got some half-baked thing and well...that's what you get.
I'm more upset because we didn't get ANY good support songs...I'm incredibly disappointed. This is why I hung my bow up.
They could of done this instead. My best suggestion was to let bard continue to be the mobile/dps/support from 2.0
and the Machinist take the place of PURE physical range DPS. Everyone wins. Nope, SE tried to make Bard's happy but
they can't make them be mobile/dps/support all in one go. Something had to take a hit.
They need to remove all this crap, give Bard's the mobility then back, and throw in some songs and a few DPS skills
and let Machinst take the lead of Physical DPS. Was a simple fix for those who wanted to be a range DPS.

You can hardly be given more songs...BRD was (and probably still is) borderline op to the point all statics want at least one. You have party wide TP regen, party wide MP regen and a party wide straight magic damage boost, that's absolutely ridiculous... tell me exactly, what kind of song were you expecting that wasn't going to turn BRD into even something more mandatory than it probably already is?
Also, 1.5 cast can hardly be called a "cast stance". Most DPS spells have 2.5 seconds of cast, only heals have 1.5s, and really....they look almost instant. The difference between 2.5 and 1.5 is brutal...so comparing yourselves with a poor BLM (which by the way, are in a far worse spot than BRDs, imo SMN outshines them in pretty much everything atm) is not very accurate.
