They are still vital for the game to make it an immersive experience, personally i am quite happy to just bump randomly into one, even if i don't plan to take it down somehow. The experience itself suffices.
I agree with most ppl here in some of what they are saying, personally i think there should be HNM's in FFXIV. I wouldn't care if they were FFXI style pop times but i do fully understand how inconveniant they are. But if FFXIV used the same style i think the system would suffer as this is not going to be appealing to the people this game is aimed at.
As said a few times already force pop would be the way forward, maybe earn some kind of currancy/pop items from dungons that would be used to pop them like ZMN's.
The fights shouldn't be a walk in the park either they should be a test of the players skill and ability to work together, with any drops being a luxuray item. Better then others of the same rank but not so much so that ppl wouldn't invite you to events w/o it. The KC (i know it's not a HMN drop) comes to mind here, not really a great item (unless you we're DRK with BW ^^) but it was one hell of laugh to use.
as for the the comments on bots, you can't say that any FFXI system was falwed because of the use of bots but rather SE was flawed in thier ablity to stop them. bots existed every where in FFXI, fishing, crafting, Sky NM's, HNM, teleport bots the list goes on and on. any problems caused by bots should only be blamed on SE and not the system that was being bot'd. The STF worked hard to stop bots (that made me lol ^^) but their policys were crap, if you reported a bot to a GM they said "report it on the website" becase all they can do is move stuck players, you report it on the website and maybe when the STF lookes at it in a month or more later the'll get banned.
this game is a long way from true endgame content atm, but if dungon raids is all we have to look forward too, it doesn't matter if you are a hardcore or a casual player this game will suck big time. To some it may not seem like it now but trust me it will. it'll be about as much fun as beating on a lvl 1 Marmot with a R1 class char for the rest of you FFXIV days.

hnm could work with fast respawn, not days and hours

This shows you didn't even read what i wrote just dismissed it, you should read it again, then highlight the part where i said using the same claiming/spawning system as FFXI was a good idea.
WoW -.- really? you could make a HNM that repop every 1hour super fun and challenging it's up to SE to make this happen. No one here want a FFXI only the few people i myself don't but that does not mean we could not get idea and stuff from the game -.-

This person is a single minded person or "Trolling/Troll" who just want everything to be instance and pretty much suck the life outside the city for that SE should just remake the maps right and there noting outside everything is instance you want to DOL? you get teleport to a area that you by yourself and everything is there for you to get
Let's see how fast this game would last if everything become instance when the main players of the game are FFXI and like the idea of open world stuff. Most of us are even asking for party camps. See matter how many wow players play ffxiv soon this goes P2P they return back to wow or w/e game they played and only that left would be? FFXI players which make up the most % of the game.

You do understand that i'm all for instance and open world right? when the person is only for Instance only? and the person have said this many time in many topic if you would like to go and read some of the person topic. Once again this argument have become like when casual vs hardcore oh you can't add hardcore event becuase then the casual can't do them ; ; and the hardcore could go and do the casual stuff if they like but we can't do the hardcore stuff. But then again what i'm saying you can do both casual and hardcore can do this the HNM wont be 24hour-3days repop the most they be 1hour which is fine with casual sure you need a party but what does not? if you don't have time you can easy go and do the BCNM version and get the same item for less the time and work.

HNM can be super fun if SE works on them.
They can add a lot to the game really.
HNM "guarding" dungeons could add to a story.
Difficulty could make tagging the mob useless if the group does not have the skill to take it down.
True story that no one cares about:
In Vanilla WoW it never mattered who tagged the green dragon HNM first. Death and taxes, Drama, or Relentless were going to kill them. Why? Hammer Clan, SoJ, and Riders didn't have the skill.
The Truth is, though, that the events were fun. Waiting for the pop, getting a chance for the kill or watching another group fail or succeed. Just really great times.

A lot of people don't think waiting for a HNM to pop is fun and bring no challenge. Got DOT for serket got there 1hour before pop wait and see so many people trying to get it. Watch tv and see the time for next window. Goes back to game and get hands sweaty and nervous waiting for it to pop when the time of the pop goes away you go back to watch tv. When it pop you get very nervous your body start to shake when you see the name turn Red you get super happy100% agreed.

" i know i was when i was playing with my gf and real life friends. We got serket 5times in a row and even got roc the same 5days no good drop but great time.
Now do i want something like that in FFXIV? no that was FFXI in ffxiv they can be 1hour repop with great challenge like you most attack each part of the Big HNM body part like old school Final fantasy which we never get in FFXI/FFXIV and i don't mean doing a attack just to get a body party i mean /target Leg attack it and each body part have a % of the HNM over HP. that would bring great challenge and fun if you break the HNM Horn first he start kicking if you break his leg he fall to the ground and does AOE range attack.
This is what i want to see from FFXIV but does not mean you can't get idea from FFXI. I understand people don't want to waste 10hour to get item A but if everyone waste 10min to get the same item what the point? do you really feel like you did something?
It's up to SE to make the game casual and have a great challenge to get a item but not make it hard enough that casual would turn away from. That why you can just do both BCNM and open world HNMthis pretty much fix one of the issue of the OP. but it seem the person does not want to have both he/she only want it her/him way and that it.
