BCNM style will do just fine. Though one thing I think ruined FFXI for me the most with HNMs was black belt items. They should have been soloable by MNK really. That's a whole different matter though.
I agree that bots could ruin HNM camping experience. But just because of bots there no need to not take advantage of potential content. Most people didnt like HNM camping because you could sit there for 3 hours and not get anything to show for your time. But guess what you didnt need to sit there. That gear wasnt needed one bit to be a great player. If a person doesnt want to put time and effort into getting the top of the line gear then thats fine but dont try to punish others who are willing to invest that time and effort.
The best of the best gear needs to be somewhat rare and hard to get, but that gear needs to be a luxury not a necessity like it was in XI.
Edit: if all your worried about is "Bots" thats a rather simple fix. All you need to do is get rid of the predictable spawn times. Make it more random where people cant sit and camp it like they did in XI. That would force LS's to gather quickly and get there and claim it. But also keep the hour minimum fight before it goes bezerk, that way a few people couldn't hold it while the LS gathers.

3 hours? You never did HNM did you? lol. You could sit there for 3 weeks doing HNM trying to get a pop easily.
HNM was out of control in 11 and it made all the fun items more of a job to get than an adventure.. The wait is not fun.. The botting ruins it all and people could care less, as long as they got what they wanted. If The HNM scene turns into what it was in 11 I'll be taking myself out of this game.
I do still want hyper notorious monsters. I just don't want them to be bot claimable. They'd have to be instanced. If not all the botters will destroy this game, the same way they destroyed 11.
Not sure exactly what your talking about the 3 main HNMs faf/nid B/KB and the turtle were on strict timers. If you sat in the zone for weeks all I can say is LOL, all you needed was the ToD (time of death). Its been many years since i played XI but it was something like 3 hour window after like 20 hours from the ToD with 30 min intervals within the 3 hour window, for a chance at it to pop. It was too predictable. Take the predictability out of the equation where you make it not feasible to bring your alliance to the zone and wait for it to pop. Kind of like the timat and jorg. And like I said earlier if you didnt like sitting in there camping it, no one forced you to do it, the gear was a luxury not a necessity.

I like the NM system used in FFXIV tho. They have a pretty fast respawn and some interesting spawn conditions, which could keep the LSs rotating between them without much competition. I just wish there were more stuff to craft with the current HNMs, like more recipes for dodore leather, uraneus leather, buffy and mosshorn horns and that the goblin dropped a mask that could be turned into another material (maybe some exclusive lens or leather). IMO having like 1 recipe per HNM kind of killed the interst of LSs regarding them.
Would be nice like they did with Behemoth leather in FFXI, that has almost 10 recipes that use it.
i'm pretty sure most of these will be instanced maybe unless they decide to have those B.A.M.s like in guild wars 2 where anyone can jump in and help kill.
FFXIv need HNM like ffxi, im not going to play a mmo that the only end game is with istance and raids like WOW and some othershit mmo. HNM in ffxi was the only thing that distinguishes from other MMo and was for hnms that ffxi was one of the best mmo. Im playing ffxiv because i say it is different from other shit mmo.
I like HNMs. I like the strategy and teamwork required to beat them. I like epic battles in a nice open space without arbitrary timers. I even like when they stretch out into a multiple hour long event.
I think that when FFXI started introducing popped HNMs they found a nice happy medium. I would like to see that introduced into FFXIV. I agree that camping HNMs was a waste of people's time. We needn't subject another game to that kind of tedium. 24 hour repops was a ridiculous idea. 72 hour repops was just [EXPLETIVE DELETED]. I like the idea of having to do some footwork to acquire an item required to pop an HNM. It puts a reasonable barrier between the players and the monster (and subsequently their drops) without wasting people's time making them stand around to compete for claim.
