    Step 1. Level both
Step 2. decide which you enjoy more
Step 3. Decide whether playing what you enjoy more is worth the possible difference in DPS.

Fact is though BLM are doing splendid in damage numbers HOWEVER they require a lot of forethought to a fight and maximizing every single little ability you cast and if you don't know what's going on at every second of a fight (at least with regard to EX primals) you're gonna have a bad time. SMN are far more lenient in this regard, however I can say without a doubt having played with SMNs of similar skill level, in Bismark a SMN will beat you if played right. In Ravana, you will be a SMN if played correctly. Fights favor different jobs just the way things are. Just so happens BLM require a lot of background knowledge and familiarity with a fight to be as effective, but once you are familiar with the fight? You can expect you could even beat a few melees out there, especially with a foes req at your back during burst phases.

That's what I love so much about being a Blm, researching fights, learning the mechanics and then going into the fight to gain the experience to master the fight and then have a blast as I pump out spells at the optimal times.

    Ley lines > B3 > T1 > Sharpcast&R.Strikes > F3 > Enochian > F1 > F4 > F4 > F3(proc) > F4 > F4 > SwiftCast, Flare, Convert > F4 > B3

We indeed barely have time for thunder procs anymore though, they almost always fade.
Why would you flare when f4 is more potency and you can 6 f4 opening ;(

Um, because flare costs around 880 MP and fire IV costs 1768.
Without the PIE buff you don't have enough for that one more fire IV.
With it... I'm 2 sodding mana points off!!

I'm at 263 PIE, guess I could remove one point from int, and put it in pie and do the following opener.
    Ley lines > B3 > T1 > Sharpcast&R.Strikes > F3 > Enochian > F1 > F4 > F4 > F4 > F3(proc) > F4 > F4 > F4, Convert > F4 > B3
Wait would that actually work or woudn't AF3 fall off before the first B3 cast, how do you do?

Ok, no, that doesn't work, at all, the point of flare is also to refresh your AF stacks. I stand 100% by my original opener ATM.

Flare: Is cheaper and refreshes AF stacks.

Oh my god, someone actually said this.

This is the first time ever i've seen a BLM wants to be a SMN.

    It's a miracle.

I'm not impressed. I am someone that is very loyal to what I choose. For example SMN in FF14. I stood by it with the FCoB issues we had at first and glad I did since it took me to a new level of mastery. I generally do not like people that switch to something that is easier to be better at or "win". For example in fighting games, I stick with my favorite character rather than look at a tier list, look at what is the best, and practice that. I get why people would do it though. It's just not how I roll. So for the OP, my advice is to buckle up and git gud. No joke. You might discover a new love of something if you decide to remain loyal. To me it gives me identity.

Eh, I wouldn't quite say I want to be a Smn. Honestly I still want to stay Blm and hold on for dear life, but at the same time I can't, in good conscious, justify playing a job if it risks hurting the whole group just because I want to selfishly play a job that may not be as ideal for certain content as another job. While I want and still want to be Blm, I'm also willing to change jobs for the betterment of the team.

It's not really about going with what is easier. The whole reason I initially went Blm to begin with was because I felt it would be a bigger challenge learning to minimize movement and to which I was not disappointed and enjoyed impressing people with my abilities as Blm and consistently getting comms because of my skill. I'm more than willing to continue learning and challenging myself with Blm and Enochian, but at the same time if the job is being held back by said change to the point that people are going to bench the job, much like how people are denying Mch spots, then I don't want to hold back a team for my own selfish wishes. I'm just trying to be as useful as I can within the limited means of the dps role.

It's no coincidence that as BLM, I am my static's "mechanic leader" - doing most callouts.
