Curious ship in Churning Mists

Yeah, i've spotted this thing in two places

Happened upon it when peering down through a hole in the island outside of Asah and my graphics card glitched the clouds away...

It was also spotted hiding in the clouds out of bounds in the direction of the Aery...

My guess, it's Allagans. I think some are still alive mainly cause it doesn't look eorzean or imperial. And what use would Ascians have for a ship.

Got a point, it's possible that since the key to the last zone was unlocked that maybe allagan that were in hibernation in that area awoke and are now surveying the changes in Eorzea before they make themselves known.

Except long before I completed the main quest (in fact, when I first unlocked churning mists) I could already see the ship flying around. One guarantee we have, and that is that it's disconnected from the main story.

I originally only saw it in Churning MIsts all the time - but recently saw it fade off into the distance and disappear out of bounds in Sea of Clouds (which was news to me... I only happened upon it accidently doing hunts, crossing the map with 'r' and then tabbing for a few moments... only to find myself ramming the boundary wall and seeing that). I'm surprised none of the moogles or anyone/NPC else on any of the maps has mentioned it. It's not that hard to see in Churning.
I'm really leaning towards forgotten/lost Allagan ship tech - hell, they could make it 'Ark' or the 'Lunar Whale' but still make it Allagan in origins. It could be abandoned same way Azys Lla was and just left on wandering autopilot. Hell, maybe Azys was it's port area.



I'm really hoping we find out in 3.1 xD I want to knoooooooowwww

Edit: Or, maybe, when shit happened to the allagan empire (ala CT storyline) maybe these are the true remaining allagan (rather than clones and a descendent)?
oooorrr maybe related to whatsohisface Tia's actions at the very end of the CT sidestory? (trying not to be too spoilery). I know nothing was mentioned about ships, but it WAS locked.....because reasons.... it could have been found and activated. Or hell, maybe just going into CT activated it.
If it's related to that story arch, I'm willing to bet it's the new 24-man raid.

Can confirm the same (two?) ship(s) are in the Sea of Clouds - the one hiding under the clouds doesnt quite seem to match the outline of the one seen on the horizon, though... at least not in my opinion.

Definitely the Lunar Whale homage from FFIV. And i guess they are probably cooking some content along the lines of FFIV and integrate them into the story like what they did with Crystal Tower in 2.1. And probably in 3-4 years time in the 2nd or 3rd expansion.. we'll probably finally see something from the FFVII universe to coincide with the remake as a crossover collaboration project.
