I'm actually leaning towards White Magic's darker aspect making use of vampirism. Amdapor was brought down because of the extreme pride of their white mages, and we know that the elements ban widespread teaching of white magic because of how dangerous it is. Why? Because conjury (and subsequently white magic) drains the life force of the environment, people, or the user in order to work--Amdapor City's ruins are filled with poisons, rot, mold and all sort of unhealthy things. Their mages might've drained the land bone dry, and the elements got pissed and now only the padjali and the WoL use it.

But what if teaching of white magic survived when the Gelmorrans fled underground to escape the floods? There lies an avenue to bring out the "bad" aspect of white magic, through those white mages who continue to practice this kind of "vampirism" in secret. What if the duskwights that didn't go to Grid carry on the practice in secret? What if when the founding fathers of Ishgard went to follow Halone north, their people brought white magic with them?

After the 6th umbral era, magic of all type got banned in whole Eorzea. People who performed magic got hunted down and later even those who did science.

Okay, resurrecting the old thread as we have new info from 3.0
No, we don't have vampires yet. We have gargoyles witches and even the reaper, but no vamps. However a journal lying on the floor in the Gubal Library finally confirmed that Lady Amandine is not a vampire. She is a succubus and someone in Sharlayan conspired to turn her into one.
Succubi here are corpses of women posessed by voidsent.

Count Fortemps looks a lot like a vampire, but he didn't bare his fangs.

For a moment, I thought this was a thread about the Monetarists of Uldah... Actually why aren't vampires all over Uldah? They're basically the personification of what the monetarists are!

Agreed. Ul'dah has thaumaturges, alchemists, monetarists and zombie plagues. It's a mirracle it isn't filled with vampires. To be fair Ishgard has the better atmosphere for them and The Black Shroud has white magic which, despite it's name is very much like vampirism. Pretty much every area outside of La Noscea should be swarming with vamps.

Can we count on Hildibrand to investigate them?

After redoing a CNJ quest, one of the fundamentals of CNJ is knowing where you get the aether you're using to cast spells. If reckless/ignorant, you can draw aether not only from nature, but your own life-force and the life energy of people near by.

Of course, this has nothing to do with vampirism, but the fundamentals exists in cnj/whm it seems

Exactly. Drawing from the life force of others to heal is as close we can get to vampirism without actually biting necks. My character is keeping a close eye on the Padjal.

Okay I was bored tonight so I figured I would try my hand at designing a vampire class. More or less a blue mage with attitude,
It would be a second job for the rogues as they were dual wielding elite assassins in XI anyway (I didn't play it).
Unlike other jobs they would have absolutely no cross class abilities. That is because of Blue Magic.
Granted, making believable blue magic in an MMO is hard so I tried to rip off XI again, which is a daunting task withouth prior play experience.

So Vampires would have an ability called Junction. You select one of three disciplines and hit junction, much like you would when using ninjutsu. However the effect remains untill you hit junction again.
The three disciplines are the following:
    - Elemental Magic (grants access to fire, blizzard, thunder, stone, aero, and fluid aura, switches piety and intelligence with strength and dexterity)
    - Curative Magic (grants acess to cure, medica, raise, protect, esuna and adoloquium, switches piety and mind with strength and dexterity)
    - Physical Attack (grants acess to blood for blood, life surge. haymaker and howling fist, increases strength and dexterity, but lowers magic defense and attack magic potency)

Naturally aquiring these disciplines will require you to undertake job quests where you suck your fellow adventurers dry....errr I mean use blue magic on evil monsters.

The rest of the abilities are vampire stuff I stole from vampire enemies of previous games, or just created on my own.

Blood Feast (absorb HP and MP and inflict Sap)

Blood Pact ( 75% damage and healing shared with target)

Piercing gaze (Inflict fear in a cone before you)

Wing flap (knockback and stun) (wings grow for the spell effect)

Bat swarm (AoE DoT) (bats bite enemies for the duration)

Blood craze (halves accuracy and parry and adds the experience bonus to the damage potency of the next attack. Only usable right after killing an enemy)

I'm really proud of that last one.

As for why is it called blue magic? Because vampires consider themselves above the foolish mortal distictions of white and black. Both in morality and in magic.

Okay, a question while we wait for the Live letter. If vampire would turn out to be its own class, or a special job like the 3.0 ones, what would it use as a weapon?

Scythe? Dual wielded sickles? A wip? A sword? A single dagger? Something else?
