There's already something like that out already. Two friends of mine and I were in Ul'Dah when we heard an NPC shout that the Empire was coming and that we were all doomed. When we went outside of Ul'Dah and started killing stuff we saw a bunch of Empire soldiers running towards the city similar to the campaign mobs in XI. We found out that it was part of an event where you can sign up and defend the city from the Empire's attack.

And remember, half of the stuff that you're asking for took years to implement on XI. Years. And to ask for similar things, especially considering they might already have expansions in mind might be asking them to alter what they might already have planned. I say might because, well anything is possible at this stage. lol Leves and Behest are really more ideal for casual players and people that generally don't have a lot of time but want to get a decent amount accomplished in that small time frame. They're also good for small three to four person groups to five star to power level classes as I found out when I took a class from 1 to 16 in one day with a couple of friends of mine. I know we're all used to the things that we have now in XI, but we all have to be flexible and patient while SE keeps tweaking this.

For a lot of us, as my Linkshell leader and friend so wisely put it, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for FFXI. However, a lot of the things that made that game great took a long time to develop. The MPK Patch, the EXP Nerf, etc. Instead of raging about what we don't have we should instead talk and give feedback on how to improve what's already there. It's been nearly a year now, to ask them to trash anything large and replace with something else, that ship has long since sailed. It's all about what can be added to the game, or what can be adjusted, to make it a more enjoyable experience.

Again, if it wasn't for XI a lot of us wouldn't be here playing this game or be so passionate about it. However, and I'm speaking for myself, for all of the things that made XI enjoyable I'd like to see a lot of new and different things make XIV just as of an epic experience as XI was. Remember before level 30 all people had were WAR, THF, RDM, MNK, BLM, WHM. And WARs had to tank WAAAAAAAY back in the day. Any of you remember those times? lol But yeah, I admit getting heated about some of this stuff but I'm going to follow my own advice. Chill out, give feedback, and calm the hell down because in the end it's a game that we're still not paying for yet so there's no real tragedy to us yet since it's not like we're losing money while they try and get it right.

i heard bout this ...not take the time to go look cause i was told it takes long time for it to pop and theres no easy way of knowing when it does... horrible execution in that point. i'm probably thinking the hamlets will be like this, like ffxi city raid(forget name b.something lol) i'm for sure looking forward to seeing everything this game puts out, but waisting time getting to locations only to wait hours upon hours for it to pop ....meh no thanks. lmao most of u didn't like to do that for nm's that actually gave u something at least at the end(maybe lol) if they switch the waiting with stuff like this i'd be so mad later at se lol. but yeah i guess this can be a start of something good.

oh u added way more to your thread, lol, for one thing i'm only doing just that giving my input, i am chill lol, if anything i type doesn't sound chill then i apologize but it's how i roll, besides it should sound a little bit like that, cause those are game breaker thoughts not just i'd like a bunny custom thought. most players sound the same to me, just some are in much more abundance and maybe sound normal to you lol. your like an atheist trying to tell me not to talk about God, while you talk about his non existence all day.

but yes like you said if not for ffxi i wouldn't be here, fact i passed up on every pve mmo since ffxi, cause it didn't have what ffxi had and feel it is the up to par standard for pve, pvp games otherwise are the same game. but dude again i'm not trying to sound angry lol, is my opinion and i'll keep on giving it. if it' sounds pushy then how do you think the game went from 15man crabs to low party, or how a game goes casual, its the screams of many. so /scream.

oh and i bought 140bucks in prepaids like an idiot cause the game looked like i would of played for years when it launched (360 of what it is like now) plus the collector edition.... i payed for there mistakes. and looking at my other post i see nothing in it that needed chilling but i think this one might of went to that edge. ty.

Well we all bought the game in some form or fashion yeah. lol And think of how long you'll be able to play once they do start charging. lol And since accounts have been switched over to the SE Accounts, that crysta you bought can be used to pay for that instead too. Either way,we've been playing free for a year. lol I don't mean to come off as accusatory, it's just I've seen a lot of bad blood brewing the past week and I wanted to kill it before it could manifest. I love a debate but hate fighting over stuff. I'm guilty of it, and there's probably proof around here some where lol, but I'd much rather toss ideas back and forth and not fight over the soul of a game that's still maturing. And I have a tendancy to ramble and apologize for it. lol

Yeah, we didn't even know about that Besieged/Campaign like thing until we saw the Empire soldiers running through the area. If it runs like Behest then it'd be on a timer and very convenient since people would be able to plan around it if they wanted to join in. But I think it's probably random in occurrence for now, some one please correct me if I'm wrong in this, just to gauge reaction, participation, mechanics, etc. For now the only indicator that I'm aware of is being in the Adventurer's Guild and waiting for some NPC to start freaking out and saying they're coming and we're all doomed.

And the one thing I want to see is the reduced time in which anima is restored. This would resolve a lot of the traveling issues and getting around problems that a lot of people have been expressing lately that I've heard and over heard in the game. If we were to get one anima back every other hour that would make things a heck of a lot less stressful on the people that do solo or have difficulty finding groups because of their play times. That's what I want to see adjusted.

Not exactly the best of argument to relate FFXI to FFXIV. Might as well just say that they act as save-points have had throughout the entire FF series. It's not a concept limited to their MMO's, but the execution is. Still no reason to name FFXIV as FFXI-2.

Races, yes. That's the ONE unique thing that can link FFXI to FFXIV. However, the lore of the races are different, not to mention that physical appearances are slightly altered. Besides, using this logic, the FFTA2game should be aptly renamed FFXII-3, since they share the same races, and ARE IN THE SAME DAMN WORLD.

    -Storyline Flow
    -Progression Flow
I have to agree Geesus on this; MMO's have similar storyline and progression levels and changes and flows. They still come in their ranks, tiers, or whatever they're called, they're still initiated by quests, and they still have the same levelling system at its core. Not limited to MMO's, and definitely not limited to FFXI and FFXIV in the FF series.

    -Primal Concept
    -Primal Battle concept
Most Final Fantasies have had the player to battle the respective summon in order to summon them. So, basing of that, shall we named all subsequent Final Fantasies FF-1, FF-2, FF-3? Oh wait, that's what they ARE doing.

And the primal concept is different from the summons in FFXI. Summons in FFXI are the 'sleeping gods', linked to neither the races of FFXI nor the beastmen of Vana'diel. They exist regardless in an abstained presence within their crystals, and are fought in battle in order to gain some part of their power. Otherwise, they are inactive throughout Vana'diel. But the primals in FFXIV are linked to the beastmen tribes, and show a lively manner in which they manipulate the beastmen. They are summoned THROUGH the crystals, meaning they exist as the energy, and not as an entity inside a crystal as the Avatars were. Also, we know NOTHING about how the primal battle with Ifrit will work out exactly. Nothing has been shown, so that can't be used as a link to FFXI.

    -Dungeon Concept
....Honestly? HONESTLY? Does having a dungeon automatically make it a FFXI-2? My god, numerous MMO's and FF games have had dungeons scattered EVERYWHERE. What makes FFXI and FFXIV unique in this aspect?

    -Upcoming job system
I see you haven't played the first few FF games. Or the international version of FFXII. They all have the jobs system in place, so there's nothing that makes it unique to FFXI. Besides, we don't know WHAT the job system is truly about. So that idea is still not fully shaped enough to be compared to FFXI's subjob system.

    -Crafting changes
And all changes automatically make it a FFXI-2 because the changes made are similar to...what? Hmm. This point, I'm a bit confused with; please elaborate a bit more.

    Need I go on?
Yep. Provide more similarities which are UNIQUE to FFXI and FFXIV, and perhaps this game can be considered a FFXI-2, aside from the obvious ones being of the MMO genre, races and starting cities.

Honestly, one glaring thing that should stand out that FFXIV is NOT a FFXI-2 is it's bloody setting. One's in VANA'DIEL, one's in HYDAELYN. One is more medieval and primal, with a mix of folk-tale traits in it, and an influence on magic. One is more modern and techy, while still retaining some medieval forms, but less reliance on the arcane arts. Already a high reason why FFXIV is NOT and should never be a FFXI-2.

Please, EVERYONE, stop ASSUMING that I think this is, LITERALLY, XI-2. That was a sarcastic remark made in an attempt to rally the ANTI-FFXI ppl into making logical arguments against why SE *shouldn't* draw from FFXI as a base for the new updates. All I ever see from any of you is stuff like this: "This isn't XI-2, it's XIV; why do you keep bringing XI up?" "Go play XI. K, thnx bai." "F$%# XI." Over and over and over again, nothing productive ever comes from "your" side (anti-FFXI ppl). So, why don't you ppl quit being so close-minded, and contribute.
Then change you topic title and your opening post. You may have said that you don't want a FFXI-clone, but your subsequent actions lead people to think otherwise. People change, and we can't assume that you'll keep your opinion. And your attitude. Your attitude seems to be all FFXI-2 YAYF*RKYEALLPEOPLEWHOHATEFFXI and people will obviously misunderstand. You obviously didn't bother reading through the rest of my post. I've tired to be constructive; I've drawn parallels all over the goddamn farking universe of Final Fantasy and gaming to this game. Why don't you READ more before just assuming and assuming, as you seem to be complaining about?

Where did I once say that I am an anti-FFXI? I even MENTIONED to draw aspects from your freaking beloved FFXI! No, instead you nit-pick out what you termed me to be from your damned stereotype, and insulted me without looking through the rest of the post. I've made it so that FFXIV doesn't NEED to remain ANYTHING but FFXIV, and that's that, but instead, you choose to nitpick on my post about using other FF's as reference in which I, satirically, give 'logical' reasons as to why FFXIV should be renamed. And then you yell at me for it. Why? Why on goddamn world do you not read more than you want? And you wonder why people bear this attitude towards you and your topics?

Get off your high horse and learn to look beneath the words. You said that you provided a sarcastic view, and that's fine, but somehow, I make a satirical paragraph, and I get yelled at? Please. I am seriously pissed at how you just dismissed my remarks and numerous others that have contributed perfectly fine to your topic. Learn respect, and then others will respect you.

Oh, and I see NOWHERE where I contradicted myself. I have kept to my view that FFXIV should draw more from the other MMO SE have done that was successful, which is FFXI, but I also want it to draw more aspects from OTHER games, be it FF or outside sources. But I also want it to be unique in its own damn way. If what I said happens to contradict me, please, provide me a thesis into how I did so, because I cannot see WHERE I have decided otherwise.

First of all, I read your entire post from beginning to end, but I found no reason to add to the quote I posted of your post. I wasn't attacking you, personally. I was using your statements as a means of "attacking" anti-FFXI ppl. I didn't mean to get you so upset lol

I was pretty pissed, myself, back when I posted that. The level of ignorance people were displaying, and the blatant denial of obvious facts was just to overwhelming to tolerate. Second, the whole reincarnation thing about Galka...it was a running joke if I'm not mistaken. Like the Mithra males, we just never saw any of them. And a Mithra male did appear in one of the FFXI expansions. Whether or not their role was one of power or not, was never fully explained, but that means little to nothing. As for the "evidence" of you contradicting yourself, I thought it should be apparent: You stated that XI and XIV have as much in common with each other as they do because they draw from previous FF titles, and not because XIV drew off XI. Then, you proceeded to name a long list of FF titles that have many similarities w/ both XI and XIV, which is to be expected. However, what you failed to realize is that XI and XIV have more in common with one *another, than any other FF titles before it have ever had in common with each other (aside from, LITERAL, sequels). By naming as many FF titles as you did, trying to show the extensive number of commonalities between "all" FF titles, you actually ended up reaffirming my initial statement: FFXI has more in common with FFXIV than any other FF games have ever had in common with one another. And the only way to find similarities that BOTH games share with each other *as well as other FF titles, is to name off at least 5 different FF titles that came before them. I don't know enough about each and every single FF game that's ever been released. Hell, I don't think I was even "alive" for all of them. However, all that aside, even if there *are two other FF titles out there that have just as significant of an amount of similarities between them, it doesn't dispute the fact that XIV and XI are *very similar. Yes, you can break things down into EXTREME detail, and say they're nothing alike: "Oh, Roegadyn don't have a dimple on the left cheek of of their face, right next to the pronounced lower jaw like in XI....they're nothing alike!" (not a real feature...just trying to prove a point). But, either way, the facts are the facts. They are very similar because SE wanted to repeat and increase the success they had in the MMO world. And they didn't simply cater to FF fans in general; they wanted to make sure XI fans, in particular, would come back to support them in their endeavor (the only audience they could 100% count on to support them, because even I, a MAJOR FF fan, was hesitant about XI when I saw it). And the only way to ensure that their XI fans "jumped aboard" was to make a "fake sequel." The races aren't just the same, the face choices are the same. They're the same damn ppl, and this is an online game where "everyone" is different. As for the reference about bringing back characters from or to FFT or w/e you were talking about. It doesn't really apply here because the setting in which they were "brought back" was entirely different. This is an MMO. It's FF's 2nd MMO, so it's only natural that they're going to be, virtually, identical.

Anyway, when we all say "identical" and "similar," we aren't talking about every SINGLE tiny trivial detail like you seem to think we are. Instead of "nit-picking" aspects of our arguments to use as ammunition against us, why don't *you try reading our posts more carefully. More often than not, the only reason anyone EVER brings up the similarities, between XIV and XI, is to try and battle the logic that dictates "XI sucks, so we don't want anything from it coming to XIV or it will suck too" -too LATE, XI content was there before you even knew the game existed...[races, bazaars, linkshells/pearls, architecture, music, landscape and terrain, many from the XI crew as you said so yourself, all the chat features, chat log colors (green ls chat, pink /tell chat, teal party chat, orange /sh chat, and so on), and SO much more]. I wish you wouldn't have brought this up again. You ppl really hit a nerve w/ me. And yes, my BELOVED XI is extremely special to me. It and school were the only escapes I had when I was a kid. So, forgive me if I don't want to let it go completely when there's already so much there, practically slapping me in the face, saying "I am XI-2...play me, and love me."

    Whoah whoah...

What about we just wait for the PS3 release? Until now this game is becoming something really interesting, and it can be something as interesting as XI. Just wait for it =)

And just to clear some discrepancies between us; I'll love for some of the better aspects from XI to return. But I'll also want FFXIV to retain it's own individual flavour, so I'm not in full support of a XI-2. Though you are true in saying that, because of the MMO status, FFXIV will definitely draw huge amounts of ideas from FFXI. But not 'virtually identical'

Some stuff that you mentioned is true. FFXIV did start off with quite a bit with XI, but overall, XIV has moved away from XI. I say again, I don't hate XI; I love how it was, and is, relatively unique among the games of MMO's. But I see FFXIV starting on it's unique road to a game which, while resembling FFXI, will establish its own place in FF history, not as a sequel to anything.

Yes, XI and XIV will share more similarities due to their statuses as MMO's, but I still do not find it for XIV to be a XI-2. and while we are different, I still respect your views. I hope you can do the same to mine. I'm sorry if I made you upset. ;_; -cringes at your last paragraph-

The thing is, like you stated in this paragraph, XI and XIV are mostly only similar in appearance and aesthetic. The main reason behind this (which has been stated in interviews) is that XIV started out as an HD remake of XI, and then the team took it in a new direction. This game was mostly sold to us on the idea that it would be something different, which is why a lot of the people (myself included) would rather the devs NOT lean on dated ideas from XI.

Some things from XI worked, but it is not the only place that SE can borrow ideas from. So many people on these forums only have XI as a reference point because it's the only MMO that they have spent a significant amount of time with, so naturally a lot of the suggestions we get on this forum are "Bring X from XI, because it was better than Y from XIV!". If SE is not going to be original, I would rather them steal from systems that are more modern than from a game that was dated within a couple of years of its release.

Again, I understand that you are saying that SOME things from XI were great, and it can't hurt to look to those ideas for inspiration. There is just usually a better solution than "copy this from XI, it was good".

Naturally. The first post pretty much trolls a good portion of the player-base, so people are going to be responding to that until this thread gets locked.
