I can't agree with this for the simple fact that playing the game as a race to the finish line is playing specifically to ignore what I think is one of the defining traits of what makes XIV a good game and a unique MMORPG.

I'm going to pull out the old line again and just suggest that they're seriously playing the wrong game. Them getting to Heavensward is not going to stop them from doing story missions, hell it's going to get even worse, EXP at 50 is scarcer than ever.

And what would they be discouraged for ANYWAY...

Leveling in ARR is extremely easy, there is no enemy grinding associated at all. The chance that you'll be cut off from story missions due to being underleveled is extremely low.

Partaking in literally anything (FATEs, Hunting Logs, Challenges, Dungeon Roulette, Rested EXP) is going to assure you're overleveled for your story quests, and EVERYTHING lv50 to Heavensward has been nerfed to hell and back.

If they've played any MMORPG in existance and are discouraged by XIV's grind to max level, they have to be exceedingly lazy.

I won't derail this thread anymore because I believe this is a valid topic that should be discussed, but I really have to say some of you guys are extremely closed minded and just plain selfish.

...or understand the concept, principles and difference between MMO's which are by their nature meant to be a time sink that requires time and effort in order to gain or achieve the thing you wanted instead of instant gratification of a single player offline game that allows for cheat codes or console commands to bypass everything you don't like to get to the part you do because you can't be bothered or are to lazy to put in that effort. Ones who understand that time is money and the more time spent by people...the more money for SE especially for a subscription based MMO which is why grind and effort is needed, why there is no instant win button for the game, why SE tries to avoid P2W services plus why the requirement of gating aspects of the game through level requirements, ilevel requirements or story progression is essential.

I almost didn't make it to 50 when ARR first came out because of the sheer volume of filler quests. I remember just getting yet another quest to return to the waking stands between every step of the quest and I just logged off, and didn't log back in for over 2 weeks. Every time I looked at the FFXIV icon on my desktop I would remember I had to go to the waking sands and it would kill any desire I had to play. From my signature, its quite obvious I wasn't too thrilled with the quest design.

Whats the point of having a linkshell with the NPC's if all they do is tell you that they want to talk face-to-face?

Questing is like participating in an Old Spice Commercial - Talk to me, talk to him, talk to me, talk to him, Now Talk To Me...Sadly, you are not done, back to him, look there, its that mob I never liked, back to me, back to him...I'm in the Waking Sands.

It's not the level that's the problem. Getting to 50 was easy; grinding 3 billion boring fetch quests is what is making me want to shoot myself.
