I almost didn't make it to 50 when ARR first came out because of the sheer volume of filler quests. I remember just getting yet another quest to return to the waking stands between every step of the quest and I just logged off, and didn't log back in for over 2 weeks. Every time I looked at the FFXIV icon on my desktop I would remember I had to go to the waking sands and it would kill any desire I had to play. From my signature, its quite obvious I wasn't too thrilled with the quest design.
Whats the point of having a linkshell with the NPC's if all they do is tell you that they want to talk face-to-face?
Questing is like participating in an Old Spice Commercial - Talk to me, talk to him, talk to me, talk to him, Now Talk To Me...Sadly, you are not done, back to him, look there, its that mob I never liked, back to me, back to him...I'm in the Waking Sands.
Guess I'm in the minority that likes all the quests and talking to people.
This is something I agree with. My wife was really excited about trying out the new classes ... until she found out they were level gated. She lost interest fast, and I've only been able to keep her interested with the new race showing her the benchmark character creation.
This thread is not saying to just stop the story from 2.x minor quests but wants to have an honest discussion on how to make it manageable and more newbie friendly.
As an altaholic, I approve of making things manageable and I think having an ITEM that allows teleportation to pre-3.0 quest NPCs is a really friendly way to do this. It can have a 30 minute cool-down or something but if you have one of those quests where you have to go to the other end of the world to report back in, it would be nice.
Heck, even if the item just teleports you to Scion headquarters, that would also be pretty darn useful.

Thats probably because people are only against allowing people to skip the story. That would be a horrendous idea. But making the fetchquests and errand running a bit less annoying? I'm sure theres no one who would disagree with that.
Even the Side Quests in HW reference your past actions. So if you never experienced it the thing they're referencing, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.
The thing is if they are going through the story leveling, gearing, and getting acquainted to the world and game will come naturally. The story isn't THAT long and it only makes sense for a FF game for people to actually play through the story. Your idea will ruin the experience for what I believe is the majority of the players who actually WANT to experience this game. Your suggesting will make it tougher to do so, making the "meta" way to take this abridged version. Though people have problems with gated content I think SE in a lot of ways have done a good job using it to make sure people keep filtering through content making it so even new players have other people to experience it with and aren't left hanging. They have put things like desynch in to help new players catch up and continue adjusting rewards and Exp knowing people want to be with friends. They do this all in a way though that maintains the integrity of the game. Your idea would jeopardize this integrity. This is a FF game and story is an integral party. I disagree with your idea.
