First off, congrats on choosing the oh so superior Xaela. Women in Xaela culture seem to be fairly badass from what I can make out from the conventions post. As for a name, it seems like we've been given a lot of freedom in that department, and it doesn't necessarily conform to period specifications like the Raen do. So you can be pretty unique with it should you choose. I went with this generator to poke and prod around and assist in inspiring choosing the right name. I've found the clan choice has been a little more complex.

Pretty useful. Pe-buddhist Mongolian names seme very much like Native American ones, with a noun and a modifier. Not too hard to create custom yet correct names for Xaela with a Mongolian dictionary.

I feel ya. I'm at the same impasse. I want to go with Kahkol, but I'm sort of leaning away from it with how vague they are with the description. Honestly, I think it would hyphenate. But that's just me. The other bit of it that wasn't really elaborated on, was whether or not Kahkol would go before, or after the other tribe name. Would it be Mol-Kahkol, or Kahkol-Mol?

Ooooh good point, I didn't consider that. It would make sense for them to put their new clan affiliation first, with their former affiliation last, but like you said there's no definitive information in either case. My hope at this point is that there may be a Kahkol + (other clan name) combination within the game's random name generator that would give an example of these clan name mergers. Or that perhaps a lore mod would see this and ask on our behalf x_x

Well, that makes it clear why there was such a wait, if nothing else. Good lord that's a lot of tribe names! And also having to explain Hepburn romanization and the time period Raen names come from (though you could've just said the Edo period, I think, Ferne :V)

Here's a question tho, for the Xaela Kahkol tribe, I wonder if combinations of former clan names with the Kahkol clan name would come with a hyphen, like for example Mol-Kahkol or something similar, because I'm starting to build a story around the Hotgo defeat for my character's backstory and wondered how to style his clan name if it would be Hotgokahkol, or Hotgo-Kahkol, or if I should make it easier for myself but lose that part of his identity... Wish they had clarified that.

Well, on some level it's going to be semantic, because hyphens don't work in the namegen, as Ferne pointed out. In game it'd have to be Hotgokahkol. AND IGNORE WHAT I HAD HERE PREVIOUSLY HURP I CAN'T READ.

I do suspect it'd come first if he remembers his old tribe, though. Kahkol seems like a very "second family" sort of thing.

Anyone find a good Raen reference page? I can't find any good sites for Japanese names from that period.

As noted, look for anything from the Edo period. That is exactly what they're drawing on for the Raen and the Domans in general (and I wish Ferne had made that clear :V)

I was always going to go with the Xaela, because I prefer my characters to be the sort you'd actually see out adventuring instead of coming up with a special snowflake reason for why they're breaking the mold :P

Thanks for the generator though! Got a name picked out that works on multiple levels, and pretty set on a clan. Name change service set, Fantasia already used, so now it's just a matter of time.

I also prefer the Raen look with the Xaela wanderlust/crazy. But what I'm doing instead is injecting some Xaela Kha into a Raen village. Sort of the Raen helped them out when they were lost and wounded kind of deal, and some chose to stay. And Lin is a result of that mish mesh of Raen, Xaela, plus what the Kha have absorbed from their outside encounters.
