We disagree on what constitutes a "stupid" question. Wondering about value for cash tendered is hardly a stupid question. So if the OP is serious (and I really hope they aren't): yes, compensation is absolutely deserved. The opportunity to lose 28 mgp on a daily cactpot ticket and get less than 100 poetics on a roulette is so dramatically heart-rending that I require recompense.
"Ask an incredibly stupid question, get mocked viciously" is a time-honored tradition on many forums.
Why is their question stupid? Because they've probably played MMOs where this sort of practice is common and you apparently haven't? How does you being ignorant of the practice make their question "incredibly stupid"?
Because as we've been stating repeatedly, SE are not under any obligation to 'compensate' you, as it is clearly written in the Terms of Service you agreed to when you signed up - SE can take the game down for maintenance at any time for any reason, without compensating players. You agreed to this, you accepted it. Whether other companies may or may not offer compensation for downtime is irrelevant - it's in the ToS for this game that no compensation is due to you. Accept that fact and patiently wait for the servers to come back up, or don't and unsubscribe. It's your choice.
MY BODY IS READY.
Well obviously this is an issue the community feels strong about. We do deserve some sort of compensation. How about a free flying mount plus a medium size home?
Cable is far more expensive than $12.99-$26.99 a month. Your example is hardly comparable.
To compare (closer) apples to apples... it's like there being one sip less in your Big Gulp than normal and demanding to be compensated.
Do people come up with posts like this just to troll? Or are they new to mmos? I get it, I'm in law school, so I actually read the ToS of things I agree to before clicking I agree >.> But in almost every mmo they basically say "you are paying us to play when we let you play" maintenances are included in that, so are months with less than 31 days. Seriously, this is such a moot discussion topic, I'd hope that a mod closes this thread, and no dev is given any feedback from it. Read the ToS before clicking agree, do you just sign contracts you don't read? (probably :/)
Under OP's logic, anytime the game is down for maintenance they'd have to compensate us, in an mmo that is just ridiculous. Big expacs and over arching changes most often take a day to patch, its a CYA (cover you a$$) method, just in case anything goes wrong in implementing the patch to the server, I'd rather not play all day today, and have heavensward tomorrow, even if you're new, you gotta take some time hit so the devs can implement the content that everyone is so hyped on. You are entitled to nothing as far as it goes with maintenance, the only thing you'd be entitled to is actually playing the game at points its deemed playable by the devs.

1) Other companies do provide compensation for lengthy downtime despite not being under any obligation.Because as we've been stating repeatedly, SE are not under any obligation to 'compensate' you, as it is clearly written in the Terms of Service you agreed to when you signed up - SE can take the game down for maintenance at any time for any reason, without compensating players. You agreed to this, you accepted it. Whether other companies may or may not offer compensation for downtime is irrelevant - it's in the ToS for this game that no compensation is due to you. Accept that fact and patiently wait for the servers to come back up, or don't and unsubscribe. It's your choice.
2) The original poster never asked if SE was under any obligation to provide compensation for the downtime. They simply asked if they had announced any plans to do so, or if they would have to be approached individually with the request.
So, I'm not sure what everyone who has "been stating repeatedly" is responding to, exactly. And I wonder where all this white knighting will be if problems should cause the servers to be down for much of Early Access. Let's see how many of the offended people in this thread suddenly turn their nastiness towards SE instead.
Joke thread. You all fell for it.
You're paying $12.99-$26.99 for a Big Gulp?
I pay $24 for cable. But I don't watch TV much. And you should probably work on getting some better pricing all around.
