Well, it's not the gender-locking that is so annoying/infuriating/exasperating/your-choice-of-word. It's the fact that the gender-locking isn't equal. While there would be people complaining if we got as many male-only outfits as female-only, there would be far fewer. For example, where's the outcry that the swimsuits or yukata aren't unisex? There are a few people wishing they could wear the opposite outfit (especially with the yukata), but not nearly as many as those who are upset about the imbalance between gender-locked outfits.
