Yeah this is pretty much where I stand. Also don't they suspend accounts for like 60 days? I doubt he'd return to game after that. Which is probably a good thing for everyone else.

Going by this post, it's not long:

Someone who was in my first static, which was a static of terrible players, was caught buying gil. They gave him 10 days off and confiscate any remaining gil that is on the offending player, I assume that's the standard punishment for a first offense.

The post is 8 months old, but it's most likely still relevant.

This is why I'm fearful of the new glamour set that was previewed being craftable stuff. Crafters will want to milk it for all its worth, as is their right, but people like him will happily cough up the Gil and then some. The prices will be kept at an inflated level for much much longer than they should be because of these people.

Anyone who doesn't care about letting their friends cheat and contribute to an aspect of the game that ruins everyone else's fun, would be just as bad as the person cheating. It does make me wonder why you're the only person in support of letting someone participating in RMT go free though......

Reporting him is a viable route, and might be necessary. I mean, I suppose that is what you're supposed to do in this case. Seeing as he's a friend it might help to talk it out and try to get him to stop this behavior, but it might just make it so that he's more discreet and lies about it in the future.

If you do try to talk to him, it might be good to inform him that gil in FFXIV is not what gil was/ is in FFXI. You can't buy the best gear, it's not hard to get the best gear, and gear doesn't stay the best for very long in the first place. Gil is almost a vanity item and not at all needed (in large quantities) to do most anything in this game.

Honestly though, I'd have a talk/ warn him because he's a friend and report him if he continues this behavior. Perhaps you should report immediately, but I personally wouldn't depending on the friend and various circumstances.

I think it's sad that you even have to ask.. Do what you feel is right.
You don't need to seek moral guidance from an online forum.

Now, if you're in it for the discussion, personally if it was a friend irl I wouldn't go to that length, irl takes priority over every in-game things for me.. But that's just me, you may feel differently. Although, if you decide to report your friend, least you could do is to give him a fair warning instead of hiding behind anonymity, I think I'd owe that kind of honesty to my friends.

As someone who has never bought gil, I think you're a terrible friend. Snitching on a real life friend, making him lose real life money... over a video game? I really hope he sees this thread lol.

Report him. Get him to create a new account to play and then report him again when he buys. Keep doing this until he thinks SE is extremely efficient at RMT control and settle down to play properly. If he just stops playing, then there's nothing you can do.

Can't force a guy who hates beer to drink beer. Let him drink something else if he genuinely cannot appreciate real beer.
